November 18, 20178 yr Popular Post comment_131805 Steve Twydell, whose youtube channel is "templeboy turnings" did a video on turning a "cube within a cube". It's kind of a neat project because you actually start with a cylinder and then turn it square before forming the inner cube. It's pretty much been a lesson in humility but after several attempts I had a limited success. No finish, no sanding on this as I'm still learning. The hardest part, at least for me, has been to get everything square. After that, it's pretty straightforward. Here's a link to his video. cube in a cube In other news that matters to no one but me, I scored a huge maple log this week. Close to 30' feel long and 24"+ at the butt. Got my work cut out for me. November 18, 20178 yr comment_131821 At first I thought you were going to say that you started with the felled tree and ended up with the cube I was subbing in Machine Shop last week and saw a couple of those cubes the kids made from aluminum. Pretty cool. Lots of bowls and platters in that tree! Report

After the monsoons today (at least on this side of Hoosierland), it may be a few days before you can get that home. Report

Got it home yesterday Dave, was going to get it myself but decided to call a wrecker service, the owner is retired but still has his truck, he delivered it for only 40 bucks. Unbelievable!? We had something over 3.5" here, yard is flooded and it will be a few days before I can do anything with the maple. Steve Report

Wow...not worth getting dressed and hooking the trailer to the truck for a deal like that...even better deal than the tree! I think we received nearly 4" from early AM through this evening. A LOT of water we certainly did not need. We were fortunate to miss the severe wind damage. Frankfort was hit hard on the East side of town along SR-28. Walmart is closed indefinitely due to structural damage to building; also damage to the H.S., other businesses and homes. Report
