Don't forget the submarine movies, They Were Expendable, Sahara, A Bridge Too Far, Stalag 17, Sands of Iwo Jima and 12 O'clock High are all good movies. Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima are pretty great too. Yeah, I also like war movies

I'm a war movie junkie, too. Watch'em all but navy stuff is what I like most. I thought Band of Brothers (and the Pacific) were probably the most realistic of the genre without the obvious CGI.

Of the relatively recent releases Unbroken & Hacksaw Ridge were excellent to me. Unbroken as a movie probably the most impact but I read the book prior to seeing the movie. As with most Hollywood stuff, the book far surpasses the movie. I recently just watched the original 12 O'clock High movie as thoroughly enjoyed it. For the past several weeks, I've become "hooked" on the old 1960's TV series of 12 O'Clock High...some episodes are kinda' "cheesy" but still enjoy watching them. They're on You-Tube.

I will watch a few war movies.....been in the real stuff.    Hamburger Hill......Boys in Company C......prefer ones about the Civil War.

My all time favoritist war movie has to be Dr. Strangelove. On the list next would be Catch 22 and/or Apocalypse Now. 

The oxymoron, military intelligence, was captured perfectly in all three films.

I prefer to leave the theater laughing. 

I think the last war movie I watched was Born on the 4th of July...

Did we have two Mondays this week. Today was not a good day. My Dewalt 635 in the router table fried to a crisp , even the sindle is frozen. Tried to put the PC 690 in the table and discovered the screws too short to mount and I did not have a bugle head 3/16 in the shop. So trip to big orange and they do not have any either. Will try Ace hwd in the AM and if that fails will tap for what I have.Other than that did not break anything nor cut myself. Oh we did get another inch of rain.

Monday wasn't good on the mesa either, Gerald. Not as bad as yours, though. Still, somewhat nettlesome.  After spending a few days bringing some rough walnut to final size for a project, I find that half of the pieces bowed while laying on the bench. They were perfect out of the planer. But, after ripped to size, they found a way to move, apparently.

I spent yesterday afternoon agonizing over whether or not scrap 3 days of work and, start over or attempt a salvage operation. Tried soaking one piece, (1"X5/8"X48") in the bathtub and clamping it to a flat Formica covered surface. That was marginally successful. But, gave me hope. So, today we'll try Gene's patented Arizona wood bending technique. A length of black sewer pipe filled with water and Downey fabric softener set in the sun for a few hours. It's worked well before so, I have high hopes. 

Yeah, also good movies, but I haven't seen Pacific.

 

Never heard of the downy trick-will have to check out that! I have limited tools so I am always frustrated if I have gotten a board that has become misshaped.

I won't even think about steam bending,. I made a steam box have a steam generator and tried and tried to steam bend 3/4X1/2"X 4'L white oak,even soaked it like you suggest for 4 days in the hot sun and every piece broke when I bent it. Didn't use the fabric softner though. Gave away the steam box.

The first one I made out of PVC and it collapsed, the next one I made out of 1/2" MDO plywood and it held up good.

@Dadio, the bending fluid/fabric softener is the secret.

Steam is not necessary. Quicker though. And, it can be used in the winter.
