March 19, 20179 yr Gentleman, this is what happens to impeller blades on a 3 phase, 4 bag dust collector when it sucks up a 6 inch scrap and binds up Edited December 6, 20178 yr by Ron Dudelston tags added
March 20, 20179 yr Ummm...that's not good...hopefully it all stayed contained...eBay have one listed by any chance? I guess I would paint that 6" chunk gold, then mount it on the wall as a reminder... Edited March 20, 20179 yr by Grandpadave52
March 20, 20179 yr 40 years working with fans, never saw one come apart like that. Wow. The blades look curved in what's known as "forward curve" configuration, but mildly. Most material-handling blades are straight. I wonder if that was part of what went wrong? Looks like cast metal.
March 20, 20179 yr There are 2 ways to hook the blower up on a DC system. One is where the fan inlet is in the main duct coming in from the shop and exhausts into the cyclone. The second is the main duct is connected to the inlet of the cyclone and the fan is connected to the outlet of the cyclone and blowing into the filters. The first way, everything being sucked up goes through the fan into the cyclone . The second way every thing going in goes directly through the cyclone and the fan is only sucking air that has at the most fine dust, because all the larger debris have fallen out. Herb
March 20, 20179 yr WOW... $500.00 That's not good. Hopefully you'll be able to find one cheaper somewhere?
March 20, 20179 yr Author The system was designed for the dust to go through the impellers. The other way with the impeller pushing air you need shorter runs. This is a very powerful old one with no other configuration available.

March 20, 20179 yr Oh, man! I'll bet that baby weighs a few pounds...would really leave a mark if it hit flesh.
March 20, 20179 yr I have mine router where only the machine that might kick out pieces of wood that big are not going directly through the impeller first. The others like the planner, the joiner, the drum sander, the oscillating drum sander and a few more do go straight to the impeller. This all goes straight to the big flower beds.... I bet that woke the cat up!

March 20, 20179 yr Author The dust collector is an older model Coral. Italian made. Already replaced and spinning just fine. A 2x6x3/4 piece of poplar got shoved from the floor crap into it during a cleanup. Thankfully nothing hurt or damaged except the impeller.
