January 2, 20179 yr comment_90653 A nut splitter. The business end is placed around a seized nut (the bolt kind, not the squirrel kind) and a heavy hammer applies a blow to the 'U'-shaped part, causing the nut to (hopefully) be split by the wedge. John Report

Not a hammer blow, but the nut tightening would surely do the job. EDIT: oh ya, that is what you said Gene, isn't it! Report
January 2, 20179 yr comment_90684 Foss Mfg. is a fabric manufacturing company, so I doubt that THEY made this tool. I have sent an e-mail to a local historian, and am awaiting a reply. January 2, 20179 yr comment_90711 Both are good answers but I'll have to tag along with Lew on this one. The older style crimps had an indention that ran parallel with the wire much like this would make. Though it could be a nut splitter, logic and mechanical leverage would think that the threads would be fine threaded, not coarse. Could be a hickory nut cracker for baby hickory nuts. Report
