November 28, 201510 yr My son bought a 1940's Philco radio to restore. Believe it or not, the thing still works but he wants to add a digital radio to the unit with new speakers but also keep the original "guts" to the unit. Here's the dilemma. There is a small panel that he has removed that he wants to trim down and re-install as a removable plate to hide the digital radio. I suggested installing a set of slides that would pull straight out and put a hinge on the face plate that would let you flip the plate down to access the radio. Y'all have any ideas?
November 29, 201510 yr Author I didn't Larry. Just over the area where the readio will sit is where the receiver sits now. Andy is going to replace the 3/4" plywood with a sheet of 3/8" oak to give a little more room. Right now there is 2" of room to sneak a radio in.
November 29, 201510 yr Not sure you would even need the slides unless he needs to get to the top of the new radio. I was thinking of just a shelf. Any access could be from the back. I like the flip down front panel idea.
November 29, 201510 yr Ron, I'm trying to tune into what you are describing, squeal , pop , hiss wait I think I have it . How about a pair of those hidden hinges that kick a door slightly forward when opened? I'll look through my scrap boxes tomorrow, I may have just the ones that would do the trick.
November 29, 201510 yr Does a digital radio get WLS, KDKA, WBZ and WKBW. Late nites in the 1960's you could get these stations up and down the east coast!
