I am back.. You would not believe what happen to me on the way to the lumber yard. Jokes a side. We had I had a house fire a few years back, we pretty much lost everything even my little shop. We end up living in a trailer park for a few years. By the time I had a computer I had lost my way to get back to here. With no wood working tools I kind of felt I no longer belonged here. I started to build a small shop in an 12'X20" shed. I now have a small table saw, bench top band saw and a lot of hand tools. I have since just moved into a new house and will be slowly building me a new shop, well more like adding the missing pieces, like a drill press, joiner ECT.

Welcome back Phil. So sorry to hear of your misfortune. But, happy you are getting back at it. Now, don't be a stranger. We'd love to follow along with your progress.

Phil!!!!!!!! Man is it great to see you again! Thanks for dropping back in and letting us know what is going on. I am so sorry that you went through what you did, but Phil, you should never feel like you didn't belong, if anything we can be a good support network for ya.

Hey Phil, you ever consider a Shopsmith combo machine to get ya back up and running quickly? Just an idea.

Welcome back Phil.  That box dulcimer build was spectacular.  I sure hope that you get your mojo back and stick around to share with us!

Where are you located at?  I see lots of woodworking tools & machinery at auction around the country, some of which is pretty reasonable.

Thanks for the Welcome back it feels Like I have come home. Cal i am in S/W Indiana. AS soon as I get all the boxes out of the garage I will be sitting up a new shop.  I already have a list of things I want to build. Like a couple of Cabinets for the pantry, wife thinks she needs a place to put can goods. Also thinking about really pushing my limits to try a guitar build, may cheat and go with a kit for the first one. get and Ideal what to do and get measurements from it.

OH forgot to say I am wanting to try an live edge wood epoxy pore dinning room table. I already got the table frame done in Cherry, Just not found the right wood for the top yet. I get the Mad and we will be eating off a fancy table. LOL

 

Welcome back, I went thru the shop/house fire experience in Feb 2012, It took 18 months to get back settled into new digs,sold the house after it was rebuilt, bought into a different location, and set up a new shop.

Well Phil I never knew ya, but I do now and welcome is the key word. Don't feel like a stranger and take lots of pictures. Like the guys already told you the garage and auctions are rife with tool deals . John is so taken with his SS he is trying to get everyone to get one .....well I went thru that want and with the lathes I have now the SS could not do that job for me.

Hey, Phil is the first woodworker I ever recommended one too! 

The SS is definitely not for everyone, but for around 500 bucks you can be up and running with a second hand one. I spoke with a luthier a couple months ago, he came to my shop to buy something, he saw my SS and stated he had one too, builds his classical guitares on his. His guitares go for around 7 grand or so. He is the owner of Baranik Guitares. 

But I digress, folks either love em or hate em. Do your research if considering an SS.

Phil, I am relatively new here.  No matter what happens to you, you are a great contributor to this group and we need your experience and expertise.  I am also an SS owner and I love it for what I do.  I don't do extensive turning like some other folks here, but for making spindles and pens, no problems.  Like John said, it is a great tool for a really good price and you can do many things in a small space for a small investment.  Each to his own.  

I am so glad you have returned and remember we need you here.  Looking forward to whatever you do and look forward to your input on situations.  I have a friend in Evansville, IN.
