Looking at a new Lathe.....
AndrewB posted a topic in Machinery, Tools, Research, Reviews and Safety
So in the last few months purchasing my new band saw and my pressure pot, I've come to the realisation that the HF lathe was going to cause some draw backs to types of projects that I eventually would like to do with a wood lathe. How ever with the most recent covid package passing last night it turns out that it is more than likely coming that I will be getting a new lathe very soon. I was looking at the delta how ever I couldn't find any of the model that you guys have been using. How ever the wen lathe peaked my interest a bit. I've had the old wen lathe of course it worked out quite well as it turned out I bought an older model. Either way the new lathe I'm looking at yes is a wen. Specs 6 amp Motor Work piece sizes 14 inches by 20 inches Variable speeds anywhere from 250 to 3550 RPM REVERSABLE So with these specs in mind yes having a lathe that would be able to spin in reverse will be quite nice. So with the check in coming of course Id have to spend a little bit of my own money with purchasing this but at least a majority of the big costs will be covered. I wont need to buy a bench since I built a nice bench for the harbor freight. I'll just have to modify that bench to fit this lathe. The other bonus on this is I already have the extension for the lathe. I bought that before my old lathe broke down the 12 by 18 inch one. I'm also hoping that this being a newer model will last me a lot longer as well.- 23 replies

Welp RIP to my bandsaw..... Perfect excuse for a new one....

So in cutting my last bowl blank my bandsaw motor finally decided to crap out and go. It wont even cut the big three inch blanks anymore. Which is a minor incontinence. I did really like the ryobi bandsaw. I got a good run out of it for what I paid for at least. Did everything I needed it to do to get me started. I can't afford to spend on an expensive bandsaw sadly how ever I found one that I think I can manage and for the price. Either way I'm considerieng getting this one. The smaller saws work better for me in the long run of things. I am looking at the wen 9 inch bandsaw this go around. Since I've already picked up my pressure pot the bandsaw now needs a replacement and I think this one may do the trick to get me by. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077QMBTLP/?coliid=IL6H9TK9RQRGW&colid=JHVHTKURXUVA&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it_im -
Wen High Speed Steel Spindel Gouges (Review)...corrected error
AndrewB posted a topic in Machinery, Tools, Research, Reviews and Safety
So this afternoon I wanted to do some more turning while I wait for my last project to cure. Either way I finally decided to try out my High Speed Steel spindel Gouges. I sharpened them up on my belt sander. Please keep in mind that I DO NOT HAVE A GUIDE, to sharpen the chisels. I do this all by eyeballing it. So I got started on my new project and gave the new spindelgouges out. So far I like them. I origionally bought the hole set for a cost of 76 dollars. For the handles the England beech wood feels great in the hand and is a really comfortable hand hold especially if the chisel decides to buck you've got a good firm grip on it. Overall length of about 10 inches. I'm only doing the review on two of the chisels since I have not yet been through all of them. Eventually I will be doing that. I believe it is the 1/4 inch bowl gouge and the 1/8 inch bowl gouges that I've used. Sharpened quite well they do hog off quite a bit of material. How ever I had a few catches (Please NOTE... I am not sure if this was due to OPERATOR ERROR in not having an exact proper angle on the gouge up against the work piece and tool rest). Either way at 76 dollars for an Artisan Chisel Set with 6 inch HSS blades. I'm not going to gripe and complain. I bought these a while ago and just now got around to using them. Would I recomend buying them yes. If you are on a budget buy its a bit of a jump cost but worth the money for an "In Expensive" set of chisels. Either way that's my 2 cents on the deal. I'll put up some photos in here of the work piece some of the wood shavings and chisels. My opinion they are good enough for me. Here is the web link I bought these through the Home Depot website. (Please CORRECT ME if I am wrong on the gouge sizes THANK YOU). https://www.homedepot.com/p/WEN-Artisan-Chisel-Set-with-6-in-High-Speed-Steel-Blades-and-10-in-England-Beech-Handles-6-Piece-CH11/308758879 Hope this helps for anyone looking for an in expensive set of High Speed Steel Chisels.- 6 replies

Hello All, My old craftsman bandsaw broke and of. course I broke it more when I tried to fix it. I was in need of a new saw so I bought this one from Amazon for around $80. It seems to cut well and it is very quiet. Since I am a neophyte to the world of scrolling I opted for an entry level saw. The ratings are pretty good and as an added bonus it takes pinned and unpinned blades. Do you guys think this will serve me well as a beginner? The Dewalt SS comes later WEN 3920 16-Inch
