Only 68 turning days until Christmas!!!! Our Patriot Turners- @Gerald gave us a peek at his next project that will be going on his lathe- His post has a little more about this glue up and what he is doing while the glue dries- What’s Coming Up- Lots of stuff in the future! Click on the images for the links to registration and more information- For The Newbies- Woodturning safety is paramount! In this recent video, Cindy Drozda discusses some of the most important "PPEs" Venturing down the rabbit hole of bowl turning can lead to an addiction. Soon, every shelf in your home, friends, relatives and co-workers have at least one. Maybe you've considered selling them. There are lots of opinions on pricing your work. Here's one from Kent Weakley- https://turnawoodbowl.com/pricing-wood-bowls-for-profit-three-approaches/?ck_subscriber_id=1577117793 Expand Your Horizons- As mentioned, Christmas is fast approaching. Here's some ideas for ornaments for gifts or for yourself. First up is Mike Peace turning a bird ornament similar but larger than the awesome ones done by our own @Steve Krumanaker From Alan Stratton, a sea urchin ornament but without the sea urchin- And, from Carl Jacobson, a natural edge bowl ornament- Our own @Gerald and the club he belongs to are faithful supporters of the "Beads Of Courage" boxes. In this video, Alan Stratton discusses how he creates his version of a box to save those beads. Some neat jigs for turning the "staves" he used to make the box. Mike Peace shared a "cool" trick on how he unstuck a thread lid on a box- I cannot remember if I saw this information here on the Patriot or on a social media site. The question was concerning a ring type turning that was then sliced into thin pieces. After some searching, I discovered there are called "German Rings". Simon Beggs seems to have a lock on how these are done- If you have accounts at Facebook or Instagram, you can see more of these- https://www.instagram.com/simonbeggswoodturning/ https://www.facebook.com/simonbeggswoodturning/ New Turning Items- From Woodturners Wonders https://woodturnerswonders.com/collections/ultimate-sanding-system?_kx=gV5SF2As_3IwtBi5TrpHVQM0F3UvGVbQKzhWGippDlk%3D.VJvU8R Some new products reviewed by Mike Waldt. I am not sure if all of these are available in the united states- Everything Else- Did an Easy Wood Tools demo at the Woodcraft of Richmond this past Saturday. Really nice folks there and the Woodcraft store is huge! They even had refreshments- The turners I spoke to really like the Easy Chuck and the #1 hollower.

The last Wednesday in April. Don't forget Mother's Day is in a couple of weeks. My Mom is locked down in her assisted living facility. Haven't been able to visit for almost 2 months. Thank goodness she is a healthy 94. Our Patriot Turners- @Kevin Beitz showed us a really awesome wood score. What was intended for the woodstove is going to make some fantastic bowls. Kevin's post contains more images and some interesting comment. Please check it out- On Friday, @FlGatorwood posted a couple of images of some turnings he is making. These are the "inside-out" ornaments- Here's the link to his post- @aaronc finally fired up his lathe and has stepped over the edge of that slippery slope of turning! He showed us some pictures of his first turning and his lathe. He received lots of comments and helpful advice. Please read his post and see if you can provide any additional comment- @Ron Altier asked us about pricing ornaments. He said he was shocked at the price of some of them. He did receive lots of comments. What do you thin? What’s Coming Up- Yesterday, Woodcraft's Turning Tuesday had Frank Byers turning a ring. Frank turns a neat project each week and they are done live. This one is a little long but still interesting. For The Newbies- This video on woodturning tools for beginners highlights some of the Easy Wood Tools products ( @Jim from Easy Wood Tools ) but doesn't limit itself to just tool. Which part of the tree did that project come from? Tim Yoder explains- Expand Your Horizons- Two of our turners- @Gerald and @Steve Krumanaker embellish their work with pyrography. Mike Peace shows us how he recently added "doodles" to a bowl he turned. I was surprised to see how large the piece of dogwood was, that he used. New Turning Items- It happens to all of us. Might as well be proud to join the club! https://www.msabansmith.com/category/merch/funnel-club/?fbclid=IwAR28E_HymWgL24636bwc2nEPXnJoS68jdVSmtSsBn2hJjYIm7lVOUhV-vxI Everything Else- I happened across this interesting tip from Lyle Jamieson. Quite an interesting way to secure a faceplate to end grain- Mr. David Reed Smith made available instructions for creating an overlay for an ornament Most of you know, I'm a jig junky. There are some fantastic shop made jigs in this one! Check out this link for more. Mr. Smith makes available a detailed PDF for only $2. http://davidreedsmith.com/Articles/OverlayOrnament/OverlayOrnament.html Finally, Tim Yoder feeds the local squirrels- Safe turning and stay well

Anyone looking for tool boxes? I noticed that Sears has marked the prices down on their tool boxes. Probably trying to reduce their inventory. I noticed their 52" boxes in particular with the 10 drawer unit down to $405 from $645 and their 18 drawer unit down from $1125 to $720. No, I have never had any connections with Sears, just thought someone here might be interested. Seems like all their boxes have been reduced in price
