It is with great regret that I post that my beloved father, Kenneth Bowen, Air Force, Korea, and Apollo program veteran, passed last month at the age of 92. His ashes have been laid to rest in the Houston National Cemetery. Unfortunately, I never went far enough with my woodworking projects to obtain the skill to do justice to the work required, and so I'd like to solicit ideas and proposals for a veteran's flag case to honor his memory. I'd want a wooden case for a standard flag, of course, but below it I'd like to have a rectangular, glass-fronted memorabilia case large enough to hold the "Korea Veteran" ball cap which he always wore, along with some of the pins and patches for the Apollo and Shuttle programs which he worked on in civilian life. I'm trying not to fall afoul of any rules here, so I'd ask that you limit this thread to discussion of ideas, concepts, and proposals only. Any prices, please share only in a private message. I hope that's acceptable. God, I miss you, Daddy.

This was harder than it looked!!! Had to go back to woodworking basics - cutting angles, especially the 22.5 (youtube vid made it look so easy) needed for the base. Plus the slot for the acrylic and notch for the back. Then put it all together and hoped the flag would fit. I've seen better folds but this is what was used. Made a lot of firepit fuel and probably have enough pieces cut and laying around to make another one or two boxes. Makes one appreciate "old school skills." Tip: unlock the head on a compound miter saw before trying to use it. Works a lot better. This is for my wife's step dad who adopted her kid brother when he was 10 and raised him. Going to give it to him this afternoon.
