Got to thinking about this project and decided to put it all together. My DIL’s father died about 4 weeks ago and she asked me to do an urn. I did a bit of research and found a design not ordinary but not too fancy. o A friend came by and said it was really big. Size is calculated as one cubic inch per pound of weight. This calculated out to 17 cups. Some like to use rice but I had sand so used it. It was almost a perfect fit for a gallon jug. Once turned I funneled the sand in and it was almost perfect fit . For the lid I tried plumbing pvc fitting but the one I bought did not work. So I ordered an insert in bronze from Ruth Niles bottle stoppers. Embellishment done and black due added. Upper part carved with a reverse cone bit. Dots burned in with diamond ball loaded so it burns. Then dry brush the upper with two shades of blue. The next ring got a brush of pearlescent white. this is the result. Now it goes to get engraved and then final finish.

Thought I had posted this but looks like that was on FB. These bowls are called friendship bowls. My wife likes to give my stuff away sometime so I asked her to ask me fiest and started making these after Dixie Biggs did a demo at our club showing these. Made these from scrapes from turning offering plates. We I wanted to put a collar on and did not think about the bowl warping as it dried. Saved by an idea I remounted the bowls as most were made with a mortise or in expansion mode. By bringing up the tailstock with a cone the bowl stayed in place well for rounding out an area at the top for the collar. Started out with stain and lacquer. Then for another idea for embellishment . Made a spiral burner and branded the bowl. After this I added Ruby Rub n Glow but have to make a pic of that for another post. Placing a collar on with a small hole allows hollowing and no need to smooth inside.

Posted a couple weeks ago I had ordered an Eggbot. It was back ordered longer than expected but finally it's supposed to deliver today. Perfectly poor timing because of already made plans I probably won't even open the box for at least 10 days, bummer. I had really hoped to get some experimenting done before now. What I am doing, as time permits, is doing Inkscape tutorials as that's the software that the eggbot is designed to use. For those not familiar with it, Inkscape is powerful imaging and drawing program, similar to Adobe illustrator I believe. However, it is an open source program and completely free for downloading. From the little time I've spent with it, the program has a big learning curve. There are hundreds of designs available for the eggbot already but of course I want to do some of my own if I can figure out just how to do it. Steve
