    "Difficult Grain"

Every woodworking site out there...they always talk about it...and how only certain $$$$ tools could deal with it....so.. We are about to find out IF such is true..or just someone trying to sell me tools.. Here we go... Will be trying to find some actual use for these four Ash planks...3/4 x 6" x 4' more of less..a look at the other side? These 4 can from 2 longer planks..and were then sent through a Lunch Box Planer...BEFORE I got to buy them. This is half of the remaining planks I have on hand... This should be FUN? Stay tuned....

    Lumber run

While out and out this morning...and running errands for the Boss...decided to load up the trunk of the Chevy.. Bought 10 planks of Ash...that we had to cut down to fit INSIDE the Chevy Equinox's trunk AND across the back seat... That wide board is 39" long, by 8" wide, and 3/4" thick... 8:1 x 6 x 6',,,five 1 x 4 x 6'..and an assortment of shorter planks Some were a bit shorter than 6'.....4/4 x 6" planks and.. Bought 10 boards at $3 per board..should be enough to keep me busy for a month? ( he tossed in most of the shorties as well..) Letting these get used to the house for a few days...while I figure out WHAT to cobble up.. Stay tuned..

    Resaw works....

Resaws.. Had been run through a Lunch Box Planer, to get them all about the same thickness...the fancy one stayed home...hand sawed apart, the planed and sanded flat.. Shudder to think what that Lunch Box would have done... Anyway...had to trim a few edges and widths.. May sort through this mess, and keep a couple items, for later...wound up with .. A "book" of long slats, and.. A "Book" of shorter slats...and a couple like this one.. The fancy pair? Well, they were trimmed up a bit... One on the left will become a couple drawer fronts...with the one on the right being the top of the case...to be built.. May use the live edges for something else? Unless I need a few more "parts"? Stay tuned....

    Lumber Run, Today

Since I was out & about this morning...dropped the Boss off to do her things..and drove over to buy a bit of Hardwood... Craftsman Chrome Edge saw was a bit too dull...and...I had 10 planks to cut down to fit in here.. Fun part was hauling all of these INTO the house when I got back home ....with the Boss.... There is a bit of "Live Edge" on a couple planks....and this fancy grain on a few others Ten 1 x 6 x 10' planks...plus a couple thinner things, that he threw in with this pile..Price? $30.00 All stacked up...23 planks..might take a while to get through all of them? November Project? Full sized, 4 or 5 drawer Chester Drawers...to replace a very bad one in the bedroom. May use "half" drawers for the top drawer spot.. Ice Cold Guinness Extra Stout to cool me back down...I am plumb tuckered out.. Stay tuned..

    Next Project?

Grandson dropped this thing off... Just a small, 2 step, stepladder....not crazy about the brown paint...besides that "issue" there is something a bit worse Those 2 slats across the back of the legs....particle board. And one had been used AS a step....broke the slat and a piece of the leg off....Plan is to repair the broken leg, and replace the ugly boards with new one out of Ash... . I happen to have 9 planks of 1 x 6 x 6' Ash...should be able to find enough in there? Maybe NOT this section, though.. Save this for another day..but, further down this same plank.. Might find enough "parts" in there? Might even Build a brand NEW one, using the old one as a pattern? Stay tuned..

What to do with 24bft of Ash

So..although I still have 4bft of Maple left.... 5' against the wall, 2' on top..the rest of this stack is Ash 1 x 6s, there are 8 planks, at 1 x 6 x 4' There is a 1 x 6 x 5' and two at 1x 6 x 6'.... Plan right now, is to set up to replace an OLD Chest of Drawers....that I made from scraps about 20-30 years ago...back in the Pole Barn Shop days... drawer fronts are 3/4" plywood, wrapped with pine.. Thinking something like this will look better? have to work around a couple bad spots...might use that maple for the top...or..the drawer fronts? we'll see...
