Fred W. Hargis Jr Members December 15, 20187 yr Author stats I love that table, somewhere my wife caught a pic of one and mentioned to me how much she would like to have one. I threw out that copy of the mag, so I may have to wing it if I build one...sure hope it's as nice as that if I do it.
Gene Howe Members December 15, 20187 yr Author stats Thanks, Fred. It's a pretty easy build. Any questions, just holler.
John Morris Administrator December 16, 20187 yr Author stats Absolutely perfection to the nth degree Gene, wow! The grain, the color, the work, it all flows together so well, this is one of thee nicest river tables I have ever seen, no kidding.
Gene Howe Members December 16, 20187 yr Author stats @John Morris, I was lucky enough to find that huge mesquite slab. It's the wood that makes it, the build was simple. Like the builder.
John Morris Administrator December 16, 20187 yr Author stats Where do you get those slabs Gene? Local or mail order?
Gene Howe Members December 16, 20187 yr Author stats Local...well about 100 miles or so, south. In Casa Grande. The sawyer salvages from anywhere they're clearing for development, roads etc. He also salvages from pecan and pistachio orchards. That particular slab was about 11' long and 3" thick. I bought it for $20.

John Morris Administrator December 16, 20187 yr Author stats By the way Gene, you went with glass? I thought you were the one working on the resin river type?
Gene Howe Members December 16, 20187 yr (edited) Author stats @John Morris I do a lot of resin for inlays AKA, repairs in mesquite. But, not much big stuff. I went with glass because it was simpler. NOT cheaper, though. Edited December 16, 20187 yr by Gene Howe
Mattb0313 Members December 17, 20187 yr Author stats Gene, what resin do you use, and where do you get it? TIA
Gene Howe Members December 17, 20187 yr Author stats Matt, I've used a lot of different epoxys. My favorite is System 3 from these guys.
Grandpadave52 Members December 18, 20187 yr Author stats Gorgeous table Gene. That slab of mesquite has some beautiful grain.
Gene Howe Members December 18, 20187 yr Author stats Thanks, Dave. IMHO, all mesquite has that gorgeous grain. It's understandable considering it's slow growth and harsh conditions.
1fizgig Members August 7, 20196 yr Author stats That's a nice piece of work Gene. I'd love to give resin a crack, but it seems prohibitively expensive without supervision to get it right.
Gene Howe Members August 7, 20196 yr (edited) Author stats Thanks, Fiz. But, that river is glass. A lot simpler than epoxy. Edited August 7, 20196 yr by Gene Howe
FlGatorwood Members August 7, 20196 yr Author stats Kudos. I thought I had posted on this before but I don't see it. I love it as others have so well said and explained.
junglejohn Members August 22, 20205 yr Author stats I call myself a wood worker then I see something like this. Absolute perfection. I am not worthy. I am not worthy.
Gene Howe Members August 23, 20205 yr Author stats Thanks, John. It wasn't that difficult. The slab sorta dictated the design. The build was pretty basic.
Ron Altier Members October 23, 20205 yr Author stats Gene, I saw a video on this table (or one just about like it) on Youtube some time ago. If you do some searching you can probably find it too
