The seat height looks like it is closer to the floor compared to a modern chair. Maybe this is just photographic perspective.

Maybe this is just photographic perspective. This chair is dimensioned by Kerry Pierce from his research at the Mt. Lebanon Shaker Museum. Remember Lew it is a rocker, it still has to sit atop a pair of rockers which will lift the chair off the ground another 5 inches.
