Ron,

You, and John are not alone, but the proper diagnosis is " The Dreaded Delta Bug".

I've been infected for a few years.

Well I found a few of the parts I am going to need. I'll post some pictures of what I got when the arrive.

I got a notice they shipped this morning.

John,

Finding the parts is only part of the fun.

I may not be able to stand all this fun then. So far I have had a ball and I haven't even done anything.

Sure you have John,

You've been bitten by the bug!!

Edited by Larry Buskirk

Oh Larry,.... I was bitten a long time ago. I just don't have a place to put the big toys yet, anyways.

Phil,

Not all of the "toys" are real big, some take up less room than you think.

This setup will fit a space 18" x 72" and consists of a 24" scroll saw, 11" drill press, and 10" band saw.ning-575combo-13269-1.jpg

I got in a few of the parts I will need for the Tilt Top/Joiner combo.

I got two lower blade covers, one which is rusted but has the label on it, the other looks like it has been repainted.

I also got the brackets that go on the inside of the rails to hold the optional wooden top.

The black knob for the end of the handle on the fence. And a Miter Gauge.

This one is so rusted I am not sure I can redo it but who knows?

So I am off and running on this. I just hope I don't take too long in getting to where I can work on it.

The rusty cover is the perfect candidate for electrolysis. You will lose the decal but it should clean up nicely. If you do go that route be careful that you only put FERROUS metals in the solution. The miter gauge head, knob and throat plate will not fare well.

Okay, thanks Ken.

I have been experimenting with the electrolysis on an old hand plane I picked up a couple of weeks ago.

What do you do with pieces that are chrome plated and rusting?

Edited by Larry Buskirk

John,

If you're talking about the fence rails, chuck them up in the lathe and clean them up with 120 grit sandpaper, then Scotch Brite, and then polish them on the buffing wheel. Afterwards seal with a good non silicone paste wax.

The crank, and lock handles are usually cast Zamak ( pot metal ) Do Not use the electrolysis, or they'll disappear. Likewise with the table inserts.

A good rule of thumb is if it's magnetic, it should be electrolysis safe.

Larry that won't take off enough to remove the indents for the scale will it?

Edited by Larry Buskirk

John,

Not if you only clean untill most of the rust is removed.

You could run them through the electrolysis first, then start with cleaning them up on the lathe.

Remove the endcaps first they're Zamak.

They can also be done by hand, but it takes a long time. Don't ask how I know that!

Nice set up John! and it looks like you're making good progress on tracking down parts. I have a couple tilty tops combos that I plan on restoring for my son .... if I can ever find the time.

Looking forward to seeing some progress pics.

Thanks so much Shane. Seeing the magic you perform on the tools you restore made me want to at least give it a try. You set the mark extremely high!!

Larry that what I have been looking for, the fun I could have!

John if you can get better Photos of that Label and sizes I could recreate it for you and send you the file.

There are probably better Graphic Designers that are closer to you but it's what I did at one time.
