3D printing in the shop

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Holiday sales pulled me into a 3D printer purchase. After backorder and then delays related to shop setup, the printer has been up and running for a week or so.

I was hoping to use the printer for shop items and WOW am I loving the ability to find an item and print (have been using Makerworld). Not sure how many shop 3D printers are being used by members here but would be interested in hearing favorite prints or suggestions.

To start, some of my shop-related prints:

  • Tracksaw square guide

  • Tabs to hold filters in place on my air filter cart

  • Various hooks to get me organized

  • Disposal glove box holder so I'll know where they are

I've been focused on Makerworld so far as I have a Bambu printer. This allows me to just click a file and print without having to actually know too much! 🤣🤣🤣 Hope to learn more about creating my own items at some point.

Don't have one but they do intrique me. I watch a guy on YouTube who has established a 3D Print Farm. He makes a lot of shop related items for resale as well as sells files. He's progressed from Lasers and small CNC but still offers creations from them. He's pretty sharp. Check out his channel Samcraft.

Thanks I'll have to check out the channel.

There are some very talented folks that are able to design shop items that would be very expensive otherwise. I know that tracksaw guide that I printed for very limited filament would be $$$ if purchased (realizing aluminum is a higher level of quality).

I'm guessing you'll find numerous ways to use it for shop helpers, jigs, knobs, handles and so on. The quality level really is determined by the set-up and file tolerances. Granted the plastic (nylon) may not be as durable over the long haul, but so what. Just print a new one.

Looking forward to see what you come up.

I agree with the almost limitless options. I have printed a few frivolous as my pup wanted some items 😉

Here are pictures of some shop items.

Square guide for tracksaw:

Handles to move the air filter cart plus clips to hold the filters.

Really cool and nice stuff already Barbara.TwoThumbsUp Those little turnbuttons to retain your filters are great. I would never thought about something like those, especially that small. I'd say you've hit the ground running.Praise

Lew- those look like great resources. So far I've just stuck with Makerworld as I can grab files from my phone via Bambu Handy to send to the printer. How this all works is beyond me...thankful the setup is designed for folks with limited background! Hope to expand out once the learning curve levels a bit.

This was a 5+ hour print but looks accurate and will be helpful with cabinet assembly (especially when I print a few more!).

That's awesome Barbara. I have some commercially made that are not near that nice. Some about half that size would be handy too for smaller boxes.

I have yet to learn how to change size or scale of items. I agree that smaller would be nice, although this one is pretty neat in how various clamps fit nicely in the openings. Lot to learn, but the community of people that share their files is amazing. Definitely appreciated as I'm able to pick an item and a few clicks on my phone app gets the print started.

And printed a few little "clamps" that hold the cord of my track saw to the vacuum hose. Was so helpful to keep those together! Funny how such small things made the task of breaking down plywood so much easier.

Barb, if the plastic feedstock for that thing very expensive?
