December 14, 2025Dec 14 Popular Post Because..I have this mess to clean up.. Leftovers from other project...and some that will need to be tossed out.. And a couple that need a wee bit of work.. First step... Set the fence to rip down the wider boards..as I can always glue things up into panels.. And, sort through the worst of the mess...like these 3.. FUBARS? Or.. These 2 were not worth the effort to fix.. I also chose not the resaw these.. Raised the saw blade to full height..fence was set to 9/16" and then I ran a bunch of parts through, usually having to make one pass, flip the part over, and finish the cut...also had to keep track of Blade Tilt, as it started to move a degree or too....but.. Anyone liked their wood Spalted? Going to be Drawer fronts, Later... These are the "Keepers" Saw even needed a cool-down...was working hard, today..? Ya think? Red saw blade will be going back on the saw, later today....was a wee bit warm, yesterday.... Waiting on Moose & Squirrel Express to deliver "PLAN" then glue up 4 panels to surround 3-4 drawers? Stay tuned..
December 14, 2025Dec 14 Popular Post Following along! Just finished sweeping under the lathe. Must be cleanup Sunday.
December 14, 2025Dec 14 Popular Post I'm here for the sleigh ride. I'll watch out for the red nosed moose and squirrel.
December 15, 2025Dec 15 Author Popular Post Switched out the saw blades...went from a rip blade to the 40 Tooth Diablo blade...started cutting things down to rough length, and trying to square a few ends up.. 4 Drawer fronts, 4 parts each for the 2 sides panels.. Enough for the top and the bottom panels... Edges needed a bit of work.. Jointed them...and some needed face planed... Got rid of the rough stuff, and get them closer to 9/16" thickness... First panel.. Thinking this will be the Bottom Panel....parts for the Top Panel were next... Needed a place to stash each panel out of the way, for now... Top Panel, Bottom Panel, and one Side Panel...the other panel? Can sit here overnight.... Figured that will do, for today.... Stay tuned
December 16, 2025Dec 16 Author Popular Post Working in the shop, on a Monday? Hmmm, should be interesting?😱 Drawer Fronts...before.. Needed a trim..so... 4 Drawer fronts....set these aside for a while...4 panels were "de-clamped".. Need to be all the same width, and NOT tapered... Then needed to square the ends up...the top and bottom panels needed to match...and the 2 sides as well.. Next..just plane work... Started off with the V&B No. 704....seemed a bit big..switched over to both the No. 62 and.. The Stanley #3..also started to mark panels as to "Inside" ...Front...Back...will help out later.. This will be the bottom of the case..and.. Had to adjust the jig a bit, as the Top and Bottom Panels are a bit shorter than.. The Side Panels... Made a royal mess of the shop, today... "Clean-up! Aisle No. 2!" Swept this mess up, and called it a day..feet were getting a bit crampy... Stay tuned..
December 17, 2025Dec 17 Author Popular Post Wasn't much going on, today..so....changed out the blade in the Bandsaw...took about...5 minutes or so... Next Item...bring out most of the tools I'll be needing.... Too cold for the Shop Fan...but, will make use of the Shop Stool soon enough Tools? Most were to do lay outs for Dovetail Pins...and a saw to cut with...2 other tools came out after the saw was done... Chopped done about halfway, left a porch for support...flip this board over.. And finish chopping out the waste...I do the Show Face first, to prevent "Blow-outs"..then finish up the inside face. Used these pins to lay out for the tails....Just stand the pin board upright, trace around each pin with a SHARP No. 2 Pencil... Then, that the tail board over to the Bandsaw, and test out the "new" blade.. All done on the bandsaw. Then a 1st dry fit was attempted.. Had to use a mallet to seat it into place...will need a bit of fine tuning? And that was it for shoptime, today So..the Plan here? is to dovetail the other corner. Next use that drawer front blank to space out drawer dividers, and find out how much to trim the 2 long sides...and then dovetail those corners...Blank will need trimmed a bit... Stay tuned..
December 22, 2025Dec 22 Author Popular Post Glue up...then.. After a good clean up...started on the dividers. . Where that WIDE dado was..I laminated 2 strips of ash...I also trimmed the drawer front for length and width.. Glue up today was to install 2 "floors" for the drawers to slide on....Middle divider has to wait a bit... Waiting on glue to dry here, as well...Matches the laminated front piece... Need to start ripping and a cutting... Need 8 drawer sides, and 4 drawer backs... Stay tuned..
December 26, 2025Dec 26 Author Cleaned up the edges of the laminated shelf/floor.. Then, add some glue and clamps.. Only needed 3 clamps, this time. Cut a plywood panel for the back of the case...and.. Test fitted a Drawer front...ripped some blanks down to make drawer sides and backs... Then had a Road Trip to Dayton, OH....Family Christmas Party ( and of course, I ate way too much...) Will start a different thread in a little bit....starting to "process" that $30 worth of Ash.... Stay tuned...
December 29, 2025Dec 29 Author Popular Post Cleaned up the glue joints..glued the panel into place.. Later, after those clamps left..I cut that panel to size, and glued it to the back of the case.. And, let that sit a day.... Stay tuned..
December 29, 2025Dec 29 Author Popular Post Laundry Detail, yesterday..means a wee bit of shop time.. Clamps are hung up.. Don't get too excited, these are just the drawer fronts, after they have all been fitted into place, using the brand new Stanley #5c.. Next? Drawer sides needed trimmed to length... First had to mark that length.. Then, over to the Cordless Mitersaw.. Then double check that I cut on the correct side of the line... Then, cut the other one...working on one drawer at a time here...saves a lot of mix-ups, that way.. Lay out some pins, and grab a saw.. Then Lew's Mallet and a couple chisels, to chop out the waste...transfer the marking to the tail board by simply tracing around each Pin. Bandsaw to cut the tails out...and do a dry fit..first one was a wee too tight...80grit "File" to correct...and.. Still needed a mallet to drive them together. Why the gap under the drawer side? Because there will be a plywood bottom panel sitting there. Will need to mill a rebate to the underside of the drawer front... Rinse and Repeat.. Still have to dovetail the back to the sides of this drawer... Stay tuned.
December 29, 2025Dec 29 Author back was dovetailed to the sides, today....a rebate run along the bottom edge of the Drawer Front...finally ....Glue, glue brush, and a few clamps.. Letting this sit a spell... inside view? Need a run to Hobby Lobby, to buy a few sheets of "Peel'n' Stick" Green Felt....
December 31, 2025Dec 31 Author Popular Post Drawer #2 has been sawn, chopped, dry fitted.. Had to joint the edges of the sides and back, to allow for that rebate That be an 1/8" wide Sash Mortise Chisel..things were a bit tight.. Joint to attach the back to the drawer sides...K.I.S.S. Full Dry Fit? Then clamped up with the glue.. Drawer #1 is in the background...having been fitted... I think I might have just the knobs for these drawers.. The ones on the Left? Stay tuned...only 2 more drawers to build
