Summer Fundraiser

We'd like to thank all or donors thus far! We are running short of our goal this year, and what is that goal you ask? Well I'll tally up the costs of what we'll need to finish the year out and perhaps our members and guests who have not already contributed may step up and fill the void. So look for that number in our Fundraiser Topic soon!

And thank you to all who are here and contributing content and keeping us lively!

I did get some shop time in over the previous few days when the rain kept me out of the yard. Finally got the quarter display frames finished then moved on to what turned out to be a giant headache. Marie needed/wanted a different stand for her make up mirror; the factory stand kept slipping down and would allow the mirror to fall. So I found a picture on line of something that I thought would work and decided to make one. Bad idea. Since almost every cut was at an angle and it was a fairly small piece that made it a lot of hand work. Then I had the genius approach of making it out of hard maple. I could have bought one for $10, as it was I have maybe 8 hours of trying to get everything to fit properly. It's done, but if this one doesn't work I don't think I'll try again. The first pic is what  had to go on (sold as a picture frame stand) and then what I came up with eventually. I had to alter some of the dimensions since her mirror is more like a large I pad than a picture frame.

@Fred W. Hargis Jr That looks good to me! I like the interlocking design.

Working on materials for a club demo in August. Making a John Beaver wave bowl. This one has a recessed wave. The demo will show the general procedure for making waves- both recessed and proud of the surface. This one needs the wave colored then glued in place before starting to finish the inside.

Monday?

Waiting for a pair of HP W10 laptops that can't be upgraded to W11 from the store next door. (CPU hardware requirement)

I'll be loading them with Zorin OS (Linux), and they're store software that after a little investigating found it will work with Linux.

Other than that, trying to keep the lawn maintenance equipment running and mowing, mowing, and more mowing.

Have to pull apart the string mower to see if I can replace just the bearings.

news from Italy:

generally speaking, the one thing a chair must do well is support someone sitting in it.  and the builder needs to consider various lateral loads from sitting while moving, as well as leaning it onto 2 legs at once.

and for museum visitors, if a chair is roped off and the sign says "do not sit in this chair", then don't sit in that chair.

If you need it, I found a way to load windows 11 and ignore all the hardware/security requirements. Worked on my really old Lenovo Twist.

They don't care for all of the AI crap MS is pushing, and their MS Office programs have just recently expired.

I showed them the HP laptop that I've got Zorin OS on and let the girls play around with it. They caught right on and were rather impressed with it.

They're going to check with their accountant to see if his MS Office can read Libre Office file formats.

If not it's just a matter of setting up Libre Office to use the Microsoft Office file formats.

I'll be doing one computer at a time so I can work out any problems they might encounter while leaving the one set up with W10 just in case.

I don't expect any problems, but one never knows.

Got the string mower tore down, now where did I put that Pilot Bearing puller? :WonderScratch:

Got the bearings off of the spindle, comes out a little over $100.00 cheaper than ordering the arbor housing with the bearings.

(On sale for $157.57 through Ariens, Lists for $177.04) :JawDrop:

Half that price if you add the $23.99, I spent at :Cheer:Go Harbor Freight :Cheer: I paid for,...

Of course, now that I did that, I'll find the one I spent over an hour looking for. <_<

Spent the morning picking up sticks left over from the pile. Then decided to dig up a couple of stumps, at least I tried. Got one out and exposed the other enough so  can cut the top off , ruin a chain, and cover it with enough dirt to even out the terrain.

That there is a great card @kmealy. Love it!

So far so good Store Laptop #1 converted over to Zorin OS. (Linux) ;)

Even with their store software and a few other additions the Zorin OS is only using a little over a quarter of the storage drive space that the W10 S system was using. The W10 S system almost had the small 64gb eMMC drive loaded to capacity with only a bit over 3gb of space left. Zorin OS with the additions is currently using 15.3gb. Girls claim the machine seems much faster than it ever did with W10.

Way late to this gig. Spent Monday afternoon cleaning and servicing the grill, picnic table and auxiliary outdoor table for the Fathers Day cookout after the ballgame. Hadn't been used since my debacle last September. Won the baseball game (first round of the tourney) 14-2. Best game my grandson has played all year. He pitched the first 3 innings; 5 strikeouts, two walks, and no runs allowed; 4 at bats; a walk, a double, (2) singles, (3) RBI's, 3 runs scored.

Tuesday, spent about 6-1/2 hours behind the mini-tiller cultivating the garden; ground is hard; I felt it today. Rd-2 of tourney postponed tonight (Wed) due to the weather. Once we dry out, remainder of the week will be mowing. I suspect after the winds and storm, the first order will be harvesting sticks, then mowing.
