  • Well so much for the January Thaw! the high temperature expected for the next 3 days is 18° and the lows around 0°. Even the basement shop is a little chilly!

Wow, you guys are getting icy over there on the eastern seaboard Lew! I noticed even in the area of South Carolina where we may move too, overnight lows are a tad icy.

i've only worked in my own shop, at my pace, on projects of my choosing.

I’ve worked for a few crooked shops. When I first came to Missouri I worked for a furniture guy names Les Acres. His whole idea was to open a store and let  the furniture do the work. He had a contract with a southern Missouri furniture company. He would spend 10k to open to open the contract with it specifying he would buy more over time.,

We at the shop would make hutches and China cabinets, etc to go with the tables and chairs. He would have us glue up wide panels, sand them cut them to size and he would take them to cabinet shop and make them raised panels. At that time he had a small store.

At the end….Les opened a big store, new carpet, paint, etc. He started giving bad checks to tye employees and the  were hounding me about it. Mine still cashed..The furniture came to the new store. After  that my check didn’t cash and he told me to hold on and he would make good. Two weeks went by and id had enough. He had started a new shop at a new location and I had bills to pay. Someone had asked me to build a set of cabinets. So I went over there at 2am and cut the whole set out and left. I didn’t see him for two years. Of course his shop has failed, no store, he’s done

Point of this story….

The construction business is a hard business. For those of us who have done it for a long time know there is nothing fancy about it, It’s a living. If your doing it for fun, keep it that way.

Out here, it’s dog eat dog..

million dollar house, 100k decorating budget, and they want to haggle over the cost of a custom piece of furniture.  make your own lady.

Million dollar house isn’t much anymore.

My brothers house cost 500k it’s now worth 750k he’s retired AirForce. His daughter just sold her house for 4.5million.

Both his daughter’s home and his home custom made curtains. You would be shocked at the price to have custom windows In a home like that.

Million dollar home? there on a budget for sure..
