First, welcome to The Patriot Woodworker Kandy. Glad you found us and looking forward to your continued participation with us. Can't help with your questions...above my pay grade. Hopefully @4DThinker, @honesttjohn, @difalkner@KevTN or some others will weigh in soon.

Keep us updated on how things work out.

I've never used Candle so probably not much help for you.

Are you able to jog the machine through your controller software?  Does your program run ok in simulation?  Do you have the correct post processor selected in your CAD software?

Welcome to this little place of the world. I am not familiar with Fox Alien controller. Many CNCs you design the project in one software (CAD) and have to save it to what your controller can read such as G code. Then you can use a program like G sender or UGS to send it to the machine. There is a YouTube channel called Paw Paw workshop. He has a lot of videos about Fox Aliens and is pretty responsive about answering questions.

Folks around here are some good people and we will be happy to help anyway we can.

Not familiar that CNC, but as KevTN mentioned there is usually a control box that all the stepper motors plug into. That box usually plugs into a PC via USB or ethernet or old fashioned LPT1 (printer) port.   The PC should have come with ( or be able to download)  some software that will load toolpaths (G-code), then parse that out to the control box to move the steppers and usually turn off or on the router/spindle with the router bit in it. If it is a windows PC then you need CAD/CAM software such as VCarve or Cut2D from  vectric.com.  Within it you can draw out what you want to cut (CAD) then assign specific toolpaths to the vectors you've created.  Those toolpaths are saved using a post processor that should be named something like your CNC name.  The files they make are what you load into your controller software.

If you have all of the hardware hooked up right but can't get the control box to send any commands to the CNC to move it about, then something is wrong along the data path.  Might be the cables used. Might be that the control box isn't powered on.  Might be that the control software isn't handshaking with the control box.   In my LinuxCNC software I have to click and icon in the sofware to enable a connection to the control box before any jog or homing commands will work.  For my CNC Shark just running their control software makes a connection to the control box if it is plugged in correctly.

I know this sounds complex. Perhaps I was lucky when I started out using a CNC that everything just worked as I expected it to.  The makers of your CNC should have a contact support line or email to help you get it running.  After that all that is left is creating fabulous things and cutting them out.
