December 10, 20241 yr Popular Post I just saw this on FB marketplace. He advertises a Bobcat 72" scoop (as full as he can get it) for $35. It's all hardwoods from sawmill cutoffs. It's not far from me and would certainly provide a lot of practice wood. Has anyone did anything like this, and if yes how did it work out? I could probably get some bandsaw boxes out of it as well.
December 10, 20241 yr Popular Post I’m wondering how long the pieces were in the sun and might be cracked from drying too fast

Definitely worth a drive @Fred W. Hargis Jr !
December 10, 20241 yr Popular Post I'll give you a dollar and be your friend for a year if you shipped me a big box full. Lol
December 10, 20241 yr Popular Post Same concern as Lew. Those that aren't cracked should be sealed right away. A six foot scoop is a lot of wood. At $35 a scoop some bad ones wouldn't be deal killers and could also be used for small spindle blanks. I would ask him to point out the different wood species so you know what you are getting.
December 10, 20241 yr Popular Post Not too mention, not a bad price for firewood either if you can stack it tightly in the bucket yourself

Yeah, I expect there would be some to toss, he mentioned he usually fills a 6' truck bed with 2 scoops....just one scoop would last me a very, very long time.

I've tried it once and I can say it's different than wood. Lol

December 11, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Well, should I get some (I think I'll get in touch with him today) you can get a box shipped for the actual cheapest shipping cost. But though he's close it's still a 4+ (or so) hour chunk of time I have to come up with to go get it and that's tough for me to do this time of the year. PS, he just got another load (from the sawmill, I guess) and indicated it's more "not seasoned" as much, so I suppose this is somewhat green wood. Edited December 11, 20241 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr

I'd like to see if he could ship some down to Southwest Georgia if it's affordable. Although, affordability is in the eye of the beholder. Lol
December 11, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Well, I'd like to do that but on FB everything (as best as i can tell) is fairly anonymous. Here's a link to the ad, of that helps.

December 11, 20241 yr Author You can do that, but the only thing I use FB for is the marketplace stuff. If it wasn't for Marketplace I wouldn't even have registered. Edited December 11, 20241 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr
December 18, 20241 yr Author Popular Post You to update this briefly, the fellow selling these chunks wants you to pick them up on Saturdays, or late in the day...which only leaves Saturday as a option for me. My Saturdays are occupied right now with all the holiday stuff going on, mostly visits from kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and others. So I'm not sure when I'll be able to get a load of them.
December 19, 20241 yr I would look at the pile and if I didn’t see a lot of cracks I would try a scoop.
December 19, 20241 yr Looking at it on my IPad zoomed in I didn’t see cracks. I would love to get a scoop of that.
