November 25, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Got the 2 drawers fitted to the case...so.. Base needs work... Rounding over tools? To turn a square edge.. To match the other 3 edges...Beveled with a plane until almost round,,finish up with the sandpaper.. And done...glue and clamps, next.. Only 3 edges, because... Nothing to glue to...Had a bit of trouble, getting one drawer to fit... As for the other drawer? Compost happens..despite pulling diagonals to fit the same exact center point to drill a hole? Tomorrow's task? Turn that strip into a pair of bread board edges, and add them to that panel..to make the lid.. Stay tuned..
November 27, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Square the lid's panel.. Trying to get each task done, before I need to reset the saw..so.. cut for length...next..rip fence required... Ripped right down the middle...note the push stick...Next reset.. A pass each way, left a thin center...note the Zero Clearance Overlay? reset the fence a a bit.. And clean out the center...groove was made to match the tongue on the ends of the panel.. Which needed a jig to keep itself FLAT.. This end was bowed a bit more than the other,,,this pulled both flat..then .. Run both ends through, on both faces...Jig was set to the top of the fence for clearance... Next..spread some glue along the tongues ( yummy?) Clamp the Bread Board ends in place, and let this sit a spell...Bench vise and the 2 red clamps are pinching the end of the grooves flat... Stay tuned...

November 29, 20241 yr Author Popular Post All cleaned up... And ready to install the Hardware... Then work on adding the feet to the underside of the base.... Stay tuned..
November 30, 20241 yr Author Popular Post To install the hinges and other hardware....a few tools were needed.. Eggbeater ( Stanley/ Defiance) has a 1/16" drill bit. Screwdriver is a Phillips...and a sharp pencil...and the candle to wax the threads of the screws..Hinges first... Brass plated screws, in "antiqued Brass hinges..Clamps so things don't try to run away... Before the latch could be installed.. Had to level where it will sit, front of the case was a hair higher...we have ways...then... Latch was installed....then a handle on each end.. And..make sure the lid works as needed... Will add a chain stay later... Case gets feet! Mitersaw to make both halves...then bandsaw a bit of detail... Then glue to the bottom of the base... Will sand these smooth and clean, once the glue has cured...along with a chain for the lid... Cut for length later.... Was NOT happy about the one drawer knob being offset from the other..so.. Sliced off the old knob, turned the remains to look like a knot, and remade a new knob and glued it in line with the other knob... Waiting on glue to cure... Stay tuned...
November 30, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Lid now has a chain to act as a "Stay" And..opened up.. A view of a handled end.. And round in back.. And..all closed up... Awaiting a final sanding, a coat of Witch's Brew...and a shiny Top Coat... Stay tuned..
December 3, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Witch's Brew has been applied, and wiped down.. Sapwood base is about like a sponge...was nothing left to wipe down.. So..let this dry a day... Tuesday will be the 1st coat of Warm Gloss Poly...stay tuned...

December 5, 20241 yr Author Waiting on a Furnace Repair Person to show up and FIX our furnace...as it quit working last night...currently, outside temps are at 21 degrees F. inside one is SLIGHTLY warmer. Can't work in the shop right now..too bloody COLD. House call is $75...plus any parts and Labour.....will take THAT out of this month's Rent Payment...unable to contact the Landlord at all...soo... will send him a copy of the bill.
December 8, 20241 yr Author Furnace is fixed. Was warm enough to finish up a project in the shop.. Difference between the shop lights (LEDs) and.. The lights in the Dining Room ( incand.) Was able to rub out a second coat of varnish...and... Install some RED Felt liners... This box stands 7-1/2" tall, width over the Bread Board ends is 13-3/8", and front to back is 9-1/2".....tis not a "Tiny Box" I think I can call this one "Done!"
December 8, 20241 yr Awesome Bandit. Thanks for the PIP. Also thankful your furnace is repaired. Maybe time for you to just kickback until 2025?
