2 ends, and the lid...I also glued up another panel for the "back" of the box..edges needed a bit of jointing, before the glue and clamps..so..:ChinScratch:

Had 2 tasks to get done, today....( Monday? :JawDrop:)

Task #1:  knock the dry fit apart....spread a bit of glue around, and..:Cheer:

AResawBoxGlueupfrontofcase.jpg.112591395d80de16e5b72ab1c71ceaa2.jpg

Do a Glue-up..and hope things come together nice and square..

AResawBoxGlueupsquare!.jpg.5d4184f7e9c2f11e654d79c77ee21408.jpg

9 clamps, a couple cauls, and a brush to spread the glue around, and NOT have the glue running out everywhere...:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxGlueupnorunsnodrips.jpg.e2e3890f7e1a4c86ab03c2ae952edf24.jpg

And..while this is sitting on the bench, taking up space...:ArguingSmileys:

AResawBoxGlueup9clamps2cauls.jpg.d8a9ecda66018589370648f2476332eb.jpg

I thought I could do a bit of work on making slips....already had a few blanks sawn....but, they looked clunky at 1/2" x 1/2" square..so..:SaluteandRun:

Task #2:  Set up the tablesaw to resaw the blanks down to 1/4" thick..:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxslipsslipmakers.jpg.58a4c28d8200b6b92411ff9e6b82b102.jpg

Wide stick is a Push Stick, notched to hold thin parts...as my FAT fingers will not fit between the fence and that spinning blade...:OldManSmiley:

AResawBoxslipsshouldbeenough.jpg.b9f8226df92ed7da2795f566054696a3.jpg

Should be enough?  From here on, this will get used..

AResawBoxslipsmitersaw.jpg.946fbdc55f261f3e6838069c7b6b2284.jpg

Cut to lengths needed, and miter a few corners...

Task #3 will be later,,,involves this blank..:Cheer:

AResawBoxslipsblankfordrawerfronts.jpg.0901aaa9833cac284a1e024d5371a992.jpg

This is a blank for the front of drawers...yes, 2 drawers:WonderScratch:

AResawBoxslips2drawerfronts.jpg.abd18afbc09478725d61275b2ad71447.jpg

Intend to saw this right down the center..to make the upper and lower drawer fronts..plus, there needs to be a divider between them..:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxslipsdrawerdivider.jpg.867157a3608ae60895d9e89d1b6e09d2.jpg

To cover the ends of the drawer runners..Bottom drawer will just slide across the Base...:OldManSmiley:

Stay tuned  :cowboy:

Lock the Mitersaw to 45 degrees..:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxslipinstallcuttingmiters.jpg.068d4c8d0ee527a17bdf814c75f723f0.jpg

Add a scrap to help with a clean cut...cut the 2 long slips..:SaluteandRun:

AResawBoxslipinstallstarthere.jpg.95b2892ac9d52e0ae62aee20ad71e0ee.jpg

With a miter cut at each end.   Front Slip needs to be glued even with the bottom edge of the front piece...Then run a combo square set to the top of that first slip...and saw and glue and clamp...staring with the back slip...:OldManSmiley:

AResawBoxslipinstalldepthsetter.jpg.d91bcd6bc9a54e8620650f3de40e3419.jpg

Double checking with the combo square....corners should look like this...

AResawBoxslipinstallmiteredcorners.jpg.a60eaa0a0f695fc10a52bc5b0f809561.jpg

Let this sit a spell...might start up on building a pair of Drawers, next?   We'll see....will also have to cut a plywood floor to sit down onto these slips...:ChinScratch:

Stay tuned...:cowboy:

3 Tasks for today...Besides the Normal Pay Day Errands....:ChinScratch:

1:

cut a 1/4" plywood panel..

AResawBoxgroundfloorsneedsglueddown.jpg.548739079b96a3aa389b6eb52fb30649.jpg

To act as a floor...bed it down into a bead of glue, with a wee bit of weight..:OldManSmiley:

AResawBoxgroundfloorsweightyissue.jpg.5e9b7af32b4cdea88a0c5f13f8209e3b.jpg

Task #2:   mill the drawer fronts to size...:SaluteandRun:

AResawBoxgroundfloors2drawerfronts.jpg.372f6d6cca0a89bbcf86c53832481958.jpg

Along with the divider.

Task #3...took a little bit longer...there WAS a 1 x 8 that appears to be Ash Sapwood....and at one time was a Bug Hotel..:BangingHead:..cross cut and ripped to remove the worst of the Bug Tunnels...which left me..:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxgroundfloorspartsforabase.jpg.221cdc66cb78b056090041c8c77d6995.jpg

These 5 planks...jointed the edges a bit...and..:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxgroundfloorsbaseglueup.jpg.6cb5d76ec7404aabf13a6c719acd5257.jpg

Part of the Process, was to resaw the worst face off, and wind up with a panel 5/8" thick....Will let this sit a day or 2...need to start making parts for 2 drawers...

Stay tuned..:cowboy:

Looking good. FWIW, those planes aren't gonna fit.;)

Alrighty...base panel came out of the clamps this morning....and needed a good flattening..:SaluteandRun:

AResawBoxbasedrawersplanedflat.jpg.872ff3f5caeb1b079086b1afe7f0c3bd.jpg

And the ends squared up...Then to keep it flat, I clamped it to the case...

AResawBoxbasedrawersdryfitbase.jpg.12ea3e3b7c992b556f39d5a44a4cca0d.jpg

Later, after the drawers are done, I'll glue in place...was trying to see IF I can get it centered up...and check on how well the drawer fronts and divider will fit...:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxbasedrawerstoofat.jpg.31dd599987f79d3914d0642e3b5f3059.jpg

Hmmm, not quite...a wee bit too FAT...(tall)...we have ways..

AResawBoxbasedrawersjointedforfit.jpg.5b9e6413e1dca01977832cc0e94f50ce.jpg

Peel the same amount of both at the same time...until the fronts and the divider are a decently loose fit...no binding allowed...:OldManSmiley:

Need to mill drawer sides (4) and drawer backs(2)....both for length..:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxbasedrawerssidesandbacks.jpg.40dde6f924d891bfa80becd1dee15ca5.jpg

And for width...as I need to allow for the 1/4" plywood bottom...Drawer fronts get a rebate..:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxbasedrawersrebatesmilled.jpg.5f429b1796f813354a58b2c9e99a4a99.jpg

To house the edge of the plywood bottom panel from view...Then a start of dovetails...again...Pins first, of course..:OldManSmiley:

AResawBoxbasedrawerspinslaidout.jpg.9569dc18713f624a7ca96270364cc97d.jpg

And then tails will get milled..:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxbasedrawersnexttasks.jpg.16065e805df86fdc04fe6d9a8db68b9e.jpg

About the wood in that base?   I went through an entire 1x 8 x 6' plank to get the few sections I could use...the rest of that plank?:PullingHair:

AResawBoxbasedrawersBugtussleCity.jpg.3dcd5ecff645315a1db2dec3ca228139.jpg

"Bugtussle Hotel"   When the fire pit dries out enough,, these will be going there...:MachineGun:

Drawer building will start tomorrow, I hope...

Stay tuned...:cowboy:

Checked for square...clamps were also to install the drawer's bottom panel...:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxDrawerBuildingbottomsup.jpg.d083a17ea2476593b3dd6b6f3188fc68.jpg

Bottom just gets glued in place...no metal pieces involved....other than the clamps...Let this drawer dry for a while...:OldManSmiley:

Calm before the storm?:WonderScratch:

AResawBoxSUNGlue-upsreadyforglue.jpg.d37197cfa889cdcae714599f991165c0.jpg

A wee bit of cussing..some glue, a brush to moosh it around...and a small forest of clamps..

AResawBoxSUNGlue-ups2nddrawerdone.jpg.595c5c6341c68757f2434a342210f2bd.jpg

Had to re-size a wood dowel...:Cheer:

AResawBoxSUNGlue-ups2knobs.jpg.8eae5cd3cc28916b6b859b7de6f0a93e.jpg

As these knobs came without a tenon...drill a hole in drawer #1..and.:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxSUNGlue-ups1knobdone.jpg.3633b82a81be84dacac401b113e36c2f.jpg

Waiting on glue to cure, before I add a knob to Drawer #2...:Tapping:

Drawer runners need to be laid out..:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxSUNGlue-upsrunnerslaidout.jpg.60cf784823825bebaef7a7d6fab39b41.jpg

And then glued in place...:SaluteandRun:

AResawBoxSUNGlue-upsrunnersinstalled.jpg.8df7c08b21d9490c43b739d5dd1a258a.jpg

And..double check to make sure the drawer will still slide in....:OldManSmiley:

Then lay out for the front divider..:Cheer:

AResawBoxSUNGlue-upsdividerlaidout.jpg.7d35c07c367b175ddc5ce7dd15c21a1b.jpg

Hides the ends of the runners, and closes the gap between the 2 drawers...:OldManSmiley:

Just went back to the shop...as the divider looked a bit plain & fragile...:ChinScratch:

AResawBoxSUNGlue-upsneedsinstalled.jpg.bf48d58384e74007854e519cf23832ce.jpg

So..I cut a second divider to fit inside the box, and made the outside one into a gentle curve...so..now those 2 are sitting in a few clamps...:Tapping:

Stay tuned..:cowboy:

Woooo!

I love box building.
