Yea @lewthat's what I'm going to do its a heck of a lot heavier than the delta lathe.  I'm going to have to build a bench for it like I had previously up against the wall and run it that way.  Was just stunned was thinkin no way it could weigh 127 pounds.  It was rough just lifiting it out of the box.

Concentrating on building a new bench I still have a couple more legs to put in but I've got half of it done and screwed into the wall studs just gotta put the back to legs in and maybe a middle support of some sort just so it has plenty of stability and I don't have to worry bout the danged thing falling over.  The jet is surprisingly heavy and beasty for its size probably gonna have to take the tail stock off and the banjo of the lathe just to be able to lift it up a little bit easier to the bench once finished.

SUCCESS bench built and lathe put on said bench surprisingly if you get the 12 by 21 and got to do a lift take the banjo off and tail stock off it will loose bout 10 pounds.  Now Andrew just has to figure out how to finagle with the face plate LOL.

Looking good.  Can you tell what is beefier on the Jet to make it heavier?

yea the dimensions and size of the cast iron castings the banjo is probably bout the same size and the tail stock alone weighs bout 7 or 8 pounds.... I haven't thrown anything on the lathe yet just gotta figure out how to remove the face plate.

Check for a set screw.  It most likely has one, sometimes two, to keep it from spinning off in reverse.

Yes I have set that lathe up for our club and a school and there is a set screw on the faceplate. Too bad they could not have just put it with the rest of the hardware.

Thanks guys I didn't even think about a set screw.  I'll have to take a look for that.  And the other thing with the jet it seems heavy enough that I wont need to bolt it down to the bench.  Its probably about 20 pounds heavier the delta is 97 and the jet is 127 with all items attached bout a 30 pound difference between the two.  Especiallty today I want to try it out and see how well it turns.

Bolt it down or use clamps

I'll have to get some  side mounting bolts for it but I did some turning on it to test it out.  The only thing I don't like about it is if you turn it off at a high speed it seems to just kick into speed when turning on.  Also too I had a bit of trouble getting the belt to lock in the 3600 RPM bracket so I'll have to figure that one out.  Maybe I will needs to buy the stand for it.  When I had it on and running at about 550 RPM which seemed pretty danged fast for it faster than I'm normally used to.  It didn't move an inch.   So yea this may be my new favorite lathe.

I thought the specs said the lowest speed is between 60 and 600 RPM's

it was set on the middle belt

@lew it has digital speed control.

@AndrewB I usually turn at 1050 min and max out around 1800 on spindles (note larger the piece you are turning the faster the MPH speed on outside than center at same RPM)

Yea it took me a few minutes to figure out how the belt system works on the jet but I've got it now I didn't have them set on the delta you have to go basically oposits small to large large to small but the jet you just slide the belt over.  @lew on the bench top lathe it looks like theres absolutely no way to clamp that down unless I make blocks for it to set in.

I am not sure if I've ever turned that fast with a bowl on the Delta I usually had the speed running at about number 5 or 6 on that with the belts on the max.   I tried turning at about 1000 RPM this morning seemed like it was awfully fast LOL.  This is something I'm going to have to get used to.

but yea I'm a new big fan of jet I actually really like this lathe wish I could afford the 18 inch by 40 inch one

I start my bowl blanks just below vibration. After it is ballanced I turn at around 1100 to 1200.
