Popular Post AndrewB Posted October 9, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted October 9, 2024 I just purchased the Jet Midi 12 inch wood lathe. I'm not putting up with trying to purchase parts anymore for the delta so that lathe is going to be set aside and collect dust for now. I plan on building a bench for this one so I'll have to get some new materials now that I'm fairly experienced with bench building I should be able to manage only needs to be a small one unless I just purchase one for it. Either way should work out fine and the jet should probably run. MUCH MUCH better than the delta any how unless I can convert the delta stand that I currently have to support the jet. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0160YGHZ6 DeVere, lew, John Morris and 4 others 5 1 1 Quote

AndrewB Posted October 9, 2024 Author Report Posted October 9, 2024 yea the delta was just starting to loose its appeal and yea parts arent easily accessible and other things so yea just gonna put the delta to the side and start with a new I've already had that thing for almost 6 years already long time due. The lathe should be here the 17th. Then will for sure be back to turning. Headhunter, Grandpadave52 and lew 3 Quote

AndrewB Posted October 10, 2024 Author Report Posted October 10, 2024 (edited) Sadly did a quick cancel on that lathe because it wasnt the one that I was wanting ooooooooooopsie how ever now I'm considering picking up the Wen 14 inch bench top variable speed I'm looking into it but yea had to cancel out the fox. Especially how that I found something bigger. Fortunately was able to cancel in time before it charged but I'm thinking about the wen 14 by 20 But seeing the reviews are not positive on it. But to add a quick note I am also looking at the Rikon https://www.amazon.com/RIKON-70-150VSR-Designed-powerful-capacities/dp/B0911NMGH1/ref=sr_1_18?crid=1Z50RH72X985D&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.cezG3ZkzyV7HWEKitHQMUDnD-YutFt5EXW6iNywPTgO_v8swLM9AzreM24pHZDb_DsY-k7ZucJv8V_IEmc4LqrK04m00ukg7yyZG_GQV6LslqGcyrBP0WLXD6uiFPme42CiaPUnJiqoPszo84KiF8wRYT3678znORARBqQciC4yx1Q7BvfTDBz21K0Pz9V-YTfCEbUkjOu2YbAR8dkoKd4csGXunQLtBkFzH8asloESPTdbUrgy93z-vYqI-ZIu6jYTWSIOV3yu3JNpKhkoIrkYnpnHBG1i5rFzL82P3XQs.ITlhcJGesKkj1oCvoDc_NjM51ayCL5Ew5YAhDbnwLjM&dib_tag=se&keywords=bench+top+wood+lathes&qid=1728561759&sprefix=bench+top+wood+lathe%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-18 Edited October 10, 2024 by AndrewB Grandpadave52 and lew 2 Quote
AndrewB Posted October 10, 2024 Author Report Posted October 10, 2024 (edited) This is what I properly ordered. When I ordered the other one I realized it wasnt a Jet OOOOOOOOOOOOOOPSIE. Jet 12 by 21. is what will be here some time next week. I can live with this. I am how ever going to have to build a bench for it shouldn't be too much of a hassle especially now knowing what I need to do and have built several benches already. But I think this go around instead of having the bench 90 degrees to the wall I think I'm going to put it into an L shape with the wall just a little bit of a change with it since I probably wont be getting the extension for this one any time soon. Just need it for bowl turning and 12 by 21 should be more than enough. Not only that the Delta will be being dismantled this week and I will be building the bench for it this week hopefully I can get the measurements and cuts correctly. But to add a quick note I am also looking at the Rikon There's no comparison between Wen and Rikon, IMO. I started on that Wen. It's a good starter lathe. And very good for the money. I can't speak to that specific Rikon lathe, but I have the 70-1824 and it's a great lathe. I don't have any regrets at all. Rikon CS is the best in the business. In addition to the lathe, I have a Rikon bandsaw, dust extractor, and bench top jointer. HandyDan, Grandpadave52 and lew 3 Quote

Let me know. that I believe Id just have to get the lathe broke down the motor would probably be too heavy and too expensive to ship don't think youd probably need the body of it. If I can break everything else down for the majority of it I can probably manage something. lew and Grandpadave52 2 Quote

AndrewB Posted October 10, 2024 Author Report Posted October 10, 2024 I usually ship via UPS when I ship stuff. I'll spend some time getting that broken down as far as I can with what I have. Oddly enough the entire thing still runs as a hole. But delta being so hard to get parts for now days the only thing thats jacked to heck on it is the tool rest holding bracket / banjo and the tail stock kind of a little jacked up. But that's not bad or terrible for having that thing for 5 years and being used and abused. lew and Grandpadave52 2 Quote
lew Posted October 10, 2024 Report Posted October 10, 2024 I've used that Jet lathe at several Woodcraft/Rockler demos and found it a well made machine for its size- plenty of power. Can't speak for the Rikon, but from what @kreisdorph says it would be a good choice- especially from the customer support standpoint. Grandpadave52 1 Quote
AndrewB Posted October 10, 2024 Author Report Posted October 10, 2024 I wound up going with the Jet lathe. The thing I like about that one too is it has a Digital Speed Read Out which makes things a lot nicer. The delta didn't even have that. lew and Grandpadave52 2 Quote
AndrewB Posted October 12, 2024 Author Report Posted October 12, 2024 Sweet my new Jet will be here TODAY just wish the jet wood lathe could be used with the delta lathe stand that's a pitty that it doesnt Headhunter, Grandpadave52, HandyDan and 2 others 4 1 Quote
AndrewB Posted October 16, 2024 Author Report Posted October 16, 2024 Finally Lathe Delivery day danged ups. I'm almost tempted to just buy the stand for it not sure on that yet but I may just make my own bench and set it up the way I had the old one. on the work bench. Grandpadave52, lew and Fred W. lew Posted October 16, 2024 Report Posted October 16, 2024 I mounted my first and second lathe to a bench top- of sorts. I had recycled one of my dive shop, recycled 4 drawer, K-Mart disposed of, storage display units. When the drawers were full, the entire thing was quite heavy but it still vibrated when turning out of balance items. Fred W. Hargis Jr and Grandpadave52 2 Quote
