Mostly because this way makes the final assembly easier. That spline in the long rail lets everything index nicely so that the slats are all flush with one another. I probably got thinking that way because I'm going to ship all the parts and then show up and assemble them, so I'm doing what I can to make the final glue up as easy as possible. I also tend to find this kind of design easier to execute and more visually pleasing when done, but that is all six of one. Others would have different approaches and all work ok. That's one of the things I like about woodworking, tons of ways to do any particular job. Report

Good to see you have a room with a view, anyway! Guessing the nurses aren't much to look at? Report
September 19, 20241 yr Popular Post comment_342633 Set is 95% ready. Still doing some tweaking for Weekend shows. Not shown are the two picnic tables and 4 benches and the two 8x14 high rolling platforms with big TV screens and a printed vinyl pattern of large speakers. Cabin on the left has a fireman's pole and cabin on the right has a slide on the side. We don't do minimal sets. Report

Thank you all for your positive support and prayers. Finally got home late Saturday afternoon. My sincerest apologies for taking time to respond although I did manage to read them. First 3 days were pretty rough with multiple contributors. Beyond that, a few new twists to navigate were added. Life is good. We're thankful and at peace. Working hard to regain strength. Again my apologies. Y'all are the best. If you wish to read, see here. Report
