August 12, 20241 yr Popular Post No woodworking done. Freezer bit the dust sometime last week. Lost the contents but fortunately it was a small 5cuft. type. Unfortunately, it was full. Cleaning, moving stuff in prep for the new one tomorrow. That cleaning frenzy lead to the long overdue disposal of 30+ years of collected computer peripherals. Waiting on the recycle company to come and take the mountain of circuit boards and various cables, keyboards, etc. Mimi has her eyes on the now empty space.

The heat & humidity has finally calmed down so we will start cleaning out the dead turf for our perennial garden. Hoping to have some mushroom soil delivered and tilled in by the weekend. We have been buying plants off the 1/2 price rack and working to keep them alive, they are ready to get out of the pots and into the ground.

August 12, 20241 yr Popular Post I have been wanting to clean out but just keep getting more and nothing goes out. Worked myself to a nub this morning trimming hedge. Still feeling like a limp dishrag. Still working on redoing the dueling tree as it did not hold up well to the test last week. I just keep forgetting to take pics. Speaking of books I donate most of mine after I read them But my wife keeps hers so we have a moderately large library.
August 12, 20241 yr Popular Post @John Morris Whats a Monday? Pretty much been busy re organizing and re doing the shop. Trying to make things better.
August 12, 20241 yr Popular Post The computer pile is gone. Now, according to Mimi, that box of antique wooden hand planes needs to go.

August 12, 20241 yr Popular Post Mrs. & I picked and shucked 13/doz ears of sweet corn Friday evening. She and daughter spent all day Saturday canning corn and green beans (we picked and broke the night before). Finished mowing Saturday. No rain yet; first time this mowing season rain didn't arrive within 24 hours. Hauled recycling to the center. Yesterday we celebrated our 51st wedding anniversary. After church we went back to the little Italian restaurant we found last year on our 50th. GREAT food; service not so much but in their defense, several large groups and they seemed short staffed; One of the customers there was driving a for real Carroll Shelby Cobra We enjoyed the company of our daughter/SIL (grandsons at their dad's this weekend) in one of their outdoor seating areas. Great day. Week ahead; plenty of L&G equipment maintenance, repair, recondition. I too need to do some MAJOR cleaning, sorting and discarding. Need the room for latest online auction scores to be picked up Wednesday PM. A couple other projects need attention. Only mowing needed this week will be getting the "mo-ti-vator" fired up.

August 13, 20241 yr Popular Post Add me to those offering congratulations, Dave. I suspect your comment about "gone by quickly" is true for all of us, I know it is for me.

Beginning Friday worked on a front porch post. A large hole had rotted out where I had a flag mounted. Two flags on two posts, one post rotted, the second shows no problems at all. Dug the rot out & treated it with peroxide. Over Saturday & Sunday AM I filled the hole in with Bondo. Yesterday I primed and one coat of paint in the AM, a second coat goes on today. A week or so ago I made a plate (for lack of a better word) to cover the upper front part of the post where the flag mount attaches. Just a sacrificial piece in the event it begins to deteriorate. I put one on the good post last week, I have one for this second post after the painting is complete. Saturday the window sash mirror project client came and spent the afternoon. He got the sash all painted up and together we got the mirror designs firmed up, vinyl cut and mirrors prepped for sandblasting. He will be back this weekend to do the actual sand blast work. Sunday SWMBO, her sister & I took in a movie and then Julie & I were invited to a Sunday supper for a friends birthday. Still moving a bit slow and careful. Especially when I first get up, the back just isn't playing well with the rest of me... I have also struck up an on-line conversation with a train traveler in England. He will be traveling in the US during September and our paths will cross in Chicago early in each of our travels. We are making plans to meet up and visit for a bit before he heads north & west while we head south & west Edited August 13, 20241 yr by Cal

Plants haven't really gone on sale here yet. You're probably like us, can't wait to see what it will look like next year. Still finding and moving native perennials as we find/identify them. Been lucky so far transplanting them. Some wilted a bit but are coming back rather nice. Others like the Blue/White Vervain and Swamp/Whorled Milkweed barely wilted and came right back. We did get a few of the cheaper (small potted) plants when we went by Steins to see what was available. (Major sticker shock ) Should have a good crop of Poppies (Red/Pink), Swamp/Common/Whorled Milkweeds if the seeds I've been collecting come up next spring provided the weather cooperates to get them sown later this fall. Those plus the native Asters that are just starting to bloom now. Found out that the sickle bar hedge clipper works great for cutting the grass real short so I can sow the seeds. Doesn't grow very fast after being cut that short. Edited August 13, 20241 yr by Larry Buskirk
