July 30, 20241 yr Popular Post My diabetes medication doctor asked if I could make her 3 year old twins a step stool. One for each. So I found a photo of a two step stool that is also a chair for the child. I made these out of some red oak I had left over. I thought these would be a little difficult to make, but, to my surprise, they were relatively easy. They are about 18 inches wide and about12 inches tall. I have some letters that my wife is painting for me. They each will have there names on their own stools. My doctor is one of the few that are very caring for veterans, so I have no problem doing this for her. In the photos I have not yet put their names on them, and I have not applied any Arm-R-Seal on them as yet. That will happen tomorrow…hopefully.
July 30, 20241 yr Popular Post Awesome design, Pauley! That's the "problem" with twins- you have to make 2 of everything
July 30, 20241 yr Popular Post Awesome Paul and kudos to you for graciously accepting the challenge. I suspect there will be two very excited children when they receive the fruits of your labor. BTW, very cool view of your, 'er, the missus garden gate from your shop window.

I thought I posted a picture of the finished gate. But here is one anyhow.
July 31, 20241 yr Popular Post Pauly; I made a couple of those step stool/chair over 12 years ago for our great-grand kids. They have held up very good for 4 kids using them.

I just thought it was cool your picture of the step-stools inside the shop caught the gate through the window.
July 31, 20241 yr A great project Pauley, and great to hear that you have a caring doc. Does she work for the VA, or in private practice?
July 31, 20241 yr Popular Post I likewise made one a few years ago for the one family we have that has no twins. This pattern is a vintage (50s?) in a DIY magazine, resurrected by one of the editors at PopWood. Unfortunately, now behind an AIM paywall https://store.popularwoodworking.com/products/step-stool-digital-download-u4652 Edited July 31, 20241 yr by kmealy

August 5, 20241 yr Popular Post Hi Pauley, I particularly like the one with the "flaps." If you enlarge it and upholster, it'd make a good "wing chair." Dan

August 15, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Finally all done. I tried using the burn paste to burn the names on the stools, but it just didn’t look right. Made the red oak look dirty. So I sanded the names off and used some store bought letters and painted them. I put 4 coats of a water based satin finish on these. I’m happy with the way they came out. Oh, you know you’re getting older when you miss spell a 4 letter name that you have written down in front of you. I put “ALYA” instead of “ALYA”. I’ll tell you, getting old isn’t for the faint of heart….ha ha ha. Edited August 15, 20241 yr by Pauley Made an addition on what I did.
August 15, 20241 yr Popular Post There's gonna be a couple of very happy little girls! Beautiful work, Pauley!!

August 15, 20241 yr Not many of these doctors left today @Pauley. I remember when my family doctor made house calls. Not today. Great job on the step stools
