April 29, 20242 yr Popular Post @John Morris, thanks for featuring that mesquite bench. I'm honored. Today, the shop is getting reorganized to accommodate the laser that is due to arrive. And, work on the quarter, quarter, quarter bench top boxes continues. Busy work.
April 29, 20242 yr Popular Post Morning to ya..and Ser Uncle Charles for that "WAKE-UP!" this morning...too much walking, yesterday. Burnt fingers trying to Brand a box lid. Had to go out and buy new Sharpies. Lumber resupply is done.. Shop is closed, today...that Monday Thing..... MIGHT try the Black Sharpies on this?
April 29, 20242 yr Popular Post It was a good weekend. Spent Saturday doing a little shop cleaning, then Sunday tilling the graden, fixing some yard spots, and even planted 1/2 my sweet corn (very early for us). Today is rolling rolling, rolling, er, mowing mowing mowing. That is if the electrical interlocks don't stop me. Lats Monday it was the mower's PTO switch that failed, then yesterday the Troy Bilt's safety switches (not sure which one) tried to keep me out of the garden. Had to take the mower in, for the tiller I simply unplugged all the interlocks...fired right up and we went to work. Edited April 29, 20242 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr

April 29, 20242 yr Popular Post IMG_8831.mov Had a good day at the Pearl day in the Park Saturday. It is a lot of work to set up (fortunately done Friday) put out merchandise (lots of small stuff) and then tear down at end of the day. But actually sold two ice cream scoops while packing. Felt like recuperating yesterday. it is supposed to rain all week but if it does not I will start. Saying on that Willow Oak down at the Rancher. We will see. Forgot to say the winds were playing havoc with my stock. Edited April 29, 20242 yr by Gerald
April 29, 20242 yr Popular Post Mrs. had weekend manager duties at work. Rain and wind Saturday, so I stumbled around in the garage some. Yesterday, church, then home; should have been mowing but with 40+mph winds all afternoon, took a nap instead; wasn't feeling too chipper anyway. Rough night too with some stomach malfunctions; still off my game today but with off/on rain not a total loss. Remainder of the week, if it's not raining, I'll be mowing; need to get a string trimmer or two running also. Both vehicles are past due intervals for oil/filter/service. Some other business needs attention. Might plan a trip to Boilertown later in the week for a trip to Menards. Plenty of other items on the lists to consider.
April 29, 20242 yr Popular Post Spent the morning at the furniture bank building some warehouse fixtures and cutting parts for the next month's builds. Then at home cut a cap for a theater set newel post (had 25, needed one more) and peeling the bark and cambium off some branches for the kids to use in their battles. Got to use a drawknife.

Yes, it's a classic -- will rotate around 360 degrees, tip up 90 degrees, and has the ability to make the jaws not parallel, and also has an insert that will allow not parallel beyond what the adjustment is. Patternmakers used these extensively. And gosh, it weighs about 90 pounds.

That one there you have, very NICE!
April 30, 20242 yr Popular Post Plans for the day busted. Got to the ranch ,walked thru the calf high wet grass. Ready to go to it and that tree looks even bigger than it did the first time. Saw would not run, cranked but stalled. Went back to the truck and played with the carb screws but no luck. Came back to the shop and tried some more and even less luck so trip to saw shop and it will be in hospital about a week. Oh well best laid plans..... and it was only 72 degrees today. The storms bypassed us except for some rain early this morning.

We spent Saturday, most all day at the county park down the street. Arts & crafts vendors were set up during the day and then a community event to honor fallen LEO's and ended the evening with a large (for us) fireworks show. Right after that our daughter came in and spent most of Sunday visiting with us. Yesterday was doc check up - says I'm good til next year... as long as I see the myriad of other docs all during the year Got a couple guys interested in the Duster, keeping me somewhat busy answering questions and taking various pics and videos for them... And, I think, daughter was hinting pretty strongly that she would like me to get started on building a bed - been on my list since she bought the house last fall

One of those incremental things as so many items some just don't do well every time. I have so many that did not sell last year will probably start devesting myself later this year.
April 30, 20242 yr Popular Post Working on setting up my tiny shop - 9' x 17'. I'm determined to leave as much floor space available in case I have to park the MG in a storm. Finally got the DC hung on the wall after a wait for some 5" ducting. Next is the mobile base for the TS. Don't think I'll be able to hang that! Also thinking about how to make a 3 part miter saw station that could fold down, but with a center section with adjustable height for other machines. Mother's waiting patiently for several roll out trays for the kitchen.
April 30, 20242 yr Popular Post pfft, got tired of a my small shop, so built a bigger one. with 4 vacuums. your results may vary.
April 30, 20242 yr Popular Post the conclusion of a 2 month (or so) project may be near, these are tables #10 and #11 that i've fixed for the church, cutting off any damaged edges and replacing with solid hard maple. these are 6 feet x 30". and the start of the next project, also for the church, a prototype table to hold communion elements, size specified by the pastor and by other existing constraints. again, solid maple. will be 16x22, 24" high, with a lower shelf about 1/2 way down. legs are 1-3/4" square. still need to chamfer all edges and corners, drill out mortises, make the skirt pieces with tenons, dado the legs to accept the lower shelf.....might get it done later this week, more likely next week sometime. if approved, then i'll need to make 3 more to match. will have to get more lumber, this will exhaust my supply of maple.
April 30, 20242 yr Popular Post Nice set-up in the dust collector. I have a round collection bin with a clear top and see debris swirling around in there and always wondered how a square bin would work. I imagine the coe=rners filling in and a round bowl is created.
