Be working in the rain here Larry, have a county line to survey and exhibit and I'll be getting into the muck and mud soaking wet, I love the rain though, we don't get enough of it around here, also it's not toe numbing cold here so it's just the wet stuff for now.

January 22, 20242 yr Popular Post Nothing "done" here. Tried to stay out of the cold as much as practical. Went to pick up supplies one day so that's done. Played around with my camera. Haven't had it out in a couple years and had about forgotten how to use it. Spent a bit of time on the computer to look at options on a train trip. I would love to do the west coast, I had wanted to do it in 2023... Looking at those trips are sorta like studying the seed catalogs when I was much younger... Looking at the week ahead, the forecast says that after climbing above freezing later this morning we shouldn't see freezing temps for a couple weeks. Warm temps and rain. Beats cold temps and rain So, plans are to work on these two base cabinets for our daughters pantry. Two cabinets, seven drawers. And maybe a few bird pics. And maybe daydream about a train trip...
January 22, 20242 yr Popular Post Now that my scroll saw has finally been released from the tool hospital, there are several patterns waiting to be cut. Most will be compound cuts. Fun, fun, fun.
January 22, 20242 yr Popular Post Plowed the drive. Goofed off the rest of the time. Spent some time in the shop putting things away and playing with whatever caught my eye. That always makes for a fun day.
January 22, 20242 yr Popular Post Getting ready to do taxes. Tinkered in the shop and made a Golden Ratio caliper to help me get my turnings more proportional. I was surprised that the last little one was as close as it was! golden-section-gauge-drawing.pdf
January 22, 20242 yr Popular Post Kept youngest grandson Friday night through late Saturday evening while oldest grandson was at all day Wrestling Invitational. Oldest did pretty good for his first ever middle school wrestling event especially with only 2 weeks of practice and wrestling against some 8th graders.. 3-2 on the day. Team finished 3rd out of 8. Church responsibilities Sunday. 2nd consecutive Sunday of -10° or lower to start the day. Took daughter, SIL and grandsons out for lunch afterwards. Took care of minimal tasks after. We may get to 32° for the first time in 12 days yet today (30° now at 1P), but with a price. Have had sleet/snow off & on all morning; freezing rain this evening through the overnight. Starting this afternoon and every Monday for the next several weeks, I have to PU youngest grandson after school at 3;45P. He's joined some type of choral group. While he does enjoy music (awesome teacher at his elementary), per him, he's in it for the "free t-shirt and Subway sandwich." Rest of the week TBD. Need to reinspect work and gather remainder of tools from the storm cellar after well pump replacement a week ago today when it was 12 below. Rain in the forecast most of the week, but at least temperatures above freezing.

January 22, 20242 yr Popular Post Had a woodturners meeting Saturday which came off very well .Worked on getting a handle turned in wormy persimmon . Got it turned and holes filled with epoxy colored with micro powder. Started on a small box to hold small stuff at lathe headstock. Today going down to son's "ranch" to pick up some of the sweet gum I cut last week. Tomorrow get the new knee so no more shop for a while. Weather nice today at 55 with rain coming in in late afternoon. Edited January 22, 20242 yr by Gerald

January 22, 20242 yr Popular Post @Gerald Mimi has had both knees done- a year apart. Both times she was in the OR for less than 40 minutes and home the next day. No complications other than the old adage that nurses make the worst patients . We bought an "ice machine" that pumped cold water thru a knee wrap. It really worked for her. Prayers for a successful operation and speedy recovery.

January 22, 20242 yr Popular Post @Gerald...my wife had orthoscopic ACL knee surgery several years ago on both knees; about a year apart. We got one of THESE (not exact but very similar). Made a big difference for her. Larger drug stores or medical supply stores usually carry them in stock.

Lot's of trips to Sheetz for ice but it was worth it.

We used Ice pack and did fine. You ought to see the scar, barely perceptible. I complimented the doctor and he said his nurse sews them up. Got a lot done today . A friend called he had a line on some elm so got that and then picked up some of the Sweet gum , makes for a pile in shop. Edited January 23, 20242 yr by Gerald
January 23, 20242 yr Popular Post Got the final glue up for this MFT done, now just have to flush trim, edge band the top, and get some finish on it, and that part will be done. Progress has been a little slow due to actual work lately but this should solve a couple of issues out here in the shop.
