December 15, 20232 yr Popular Post Friday again folks. Here in the land of "Two Weeks from Anywhere" we've been enjoying a few days of Sunny 50° temperatures. I helped Bruce replace the shock absorbers and sway bar on his 99 Astro earlier in the week. (Required a bit of it can't be tight if it's liquid work ) Other than that, not much happening here. What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
December 15, 20232 yr Popular Post Since the scroll saw is in the hospital, it's bandsaw boxes for a while. Bigguns and little ones. Until I run out of scraps. Don't think I need to worry about that, though.
December 15, 20232 yr Popular Post I'll be playing with the lathe some more, and since I've (apparently) forgot how to grind chisels I'll be working on my techniques for that as well. I hope to make a lumber run next week and get back to some flat work projects.
December 15, 20232 yr Popular Post hopefully, feeling better tomorrow, and reupholstering a chair seat from fabric to leather (original was woven cane, nope...).
December 15, 20232 yr Popular Post Finishing up Santa 2023. Patti has started holiday baking & it's best if I stay out of her hair. 2 hours ago, Gene Howe said: Since the scroll saw is in the hospital, People have been known to buy new power tools, try them for a couple of days and then return them because they didn't fit their needs. Just saying.
December 15, 20232 yr Popular Post We have been using the same tree service for years. A couple of local brothers who do excellent work. They keep me in mind when they come across a nice tree that would make good turning. They just called and said they are cutting a cherry tree. Looks like some nice bowls/platters in my future!!
December 15, 20232 yr Popular Post A few domestic duties today. Youngest granddaughter finished finals this morning so she'll be headed home for Christmas break. I might venture out to garage for a bit later. Remainder of the weekend is typical. Probably should put together a Christmas shopping strategy to beat the rush.

December 15, 20232 yr Popular Post Trying to avoid working way too hard for a Friday.... Might try to get a Box done before Christmas?
December 15, 20232 yr Author Popular Post Yep, it's that time of year. Property Tax bill came today. 4 hours ago, DuckSoup said: Patti has started holiday baking & it's best if I stay out of her hair. 2 hours ago, Fred W. December 15, 20232 yr Popular Post Got gifts packaged except those to mail. Delivery run next week. Got a display shelf cut down and changed shelves to Ply to reduce weight. This morn got the tree out of garage and set it up. Started putting backup camera in truck couple days ago and stopped after getting the camera in . All that crawling around wears me out , not to mention what it does to my neck. Still have to find a power source for the receiver (wireless) in the cab.

December 16, 20232 yr Popular Post fun day on Saturday for me. in the morning I'll have to trek all the way to portage to pick up a cherry tree, 12" diameter at the small end with about 24' of relatively clear trunk to have sawn into lumber. I'll also be picking up some smaller 6"ish wind fallen trees to use for turning stock. My lathe is only 10" so I might try some edge style bowls with it along with a hollow form style. this will all be a learning experience so I might just be making compost and smoker chips. but I should learn a few things along the way. on the way back I'll stop at our seasonal camper to replace the power converter which failed right after we moved it onto our site. I also will be gluing up stock for edge and end grain cutting boards, lazy Susans and other items to replenish our wares. The "artist's open house" has been going ok with the owner of a gift shop stopping just because she saw our open sign and buying a good number of things at wholesale to re-stock her store.
December 16, 20232 yr Popular Post Should hopefully be a relaxing weekend. Need to do some puttering in the shop tomorrow and sharpen all the things that need sharpening. After that I will probably play around with more french cleat brackets and MFT accessories that I have been thinking about. Need to make some storage for bits as well so I will probably see if I can’t get that done too while I am about it.
December 16, 20232 yr Popular Post Knee deep in vinyl right now. Etched two mirrors yesterday, one of which messed up badly. Luckily I have a spare mirror of the same size. When it warms up this afternoon I will give that replacement one a go and another larger mirror; then it's on to painting them these three. Our son came in last night from Columbus, he and I will work on another mirror design together this weekend. That and visiting - he's not surprised me with any last minute "can we make this while I'm here" yet
December 17, 20232 yr Popular Post Productive day in the shop today, sharps are sharpened, sweeps are swept, and some puttering has been accomplished… Got a couple of shop projects done today. Track brackets are completed and installed. The door gives me a nice place to install that out of the way without taking up wall space. Kind of an elegant solution. Next up, I needed a shelf for misc books and manuals so a little mini-bookshelf was in order. Go-go-gadget shaper origin + french cleats and I now have a nice little shelf over the sharpening station to store this kind of stuff. Now it is time for a well deserved cup of coffee and a little relaxing before dinner with the in-laws.
December 17, 20232 yr @StaticLV2, how do you love your Track Saw? Does it give you fine table saw like cuts in sheet goods?
December 17, 20232 yr Popular Post Better actually, and the dust collection is nothing short of amazing. I am gearing up to re-do the pantry after the first of the year and that is going to be a major plus for the casework. I know I am preaching to the choir but I am getting too old to be schlepping sheet goods onto a table saw if I don’t have to
