November 26, 20232 yr Popular Post Personally I love snow when I see it in a picture, on TV (not the TV screen like in the 60's) or any medium where it's afar. Afar away from Indiana as it can be.
November 26, 20232 yr Popular Post In my younger days I loved the snow, may have been my mom's genes causing that. But nowadays I'm OK if we don't get any...same with very cold temps (the high 20s and 30s don't bother me too much).

November 26, 20232 yr Popular Post When I was young (pre-school age), we'd get a good dose of snow on Thanksgiving. I concluded that Thanksgiving must be the day that snow started. Generally, the snow on the ground lasted until spring, often with a slight thaw in January (but not melting it all). Northeast Ohio. Since moving to SW Ohio, we get snow, not as often and it doesn't usually last real long. I ended up selling my xcountry skis. It would snow on Tuesday and I'd think about going skiing on the weekend, only to have it all melted by Friday. That's OK, though. I just wish that people would remember how to drive in the snow. End of old man rant.
November 26, 20232 yr I like snow as long as I don't have to shovel or otherwise get out in it and can sit by the fire and watch. Otherwise forget it and it is rather rare here.
November 27, 20232 yr Popular Post I had 8" of drifted snow on my 20' x 40' driveway yesterday morn. 20 minutes of playing with my Ego battery powered snow blower and I had both the driveway and 100' long sidewalk on the side of my corner house all cleared. Before having a snow blower I would have done just the half of the driveway so one car could get out, and put off the sidewalk until later using a crappy snow shovel. Temp was just under freezing and the snow was still powdery. Last year I never had any snow that lasted more than a day to use the snow blower on.

One small feature bothered me. The three wise men were wearing firemen's helmets. Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, I left. At a "Quick Stop" on the edge of town, I asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets. She exploded into a rage, yelling at me, "You darn Yankees never do read the Bible!" I assured her that I did, but simply couldn't recall anything about firemen in the Bible. She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and ruffled through some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking it in my face she said "See, it says right here, 'The three wise man came from afar.'"

The steel mills use to pump a lot of coal smoke & sulfur into the air back then.
