March 24, 20233 yr Popular Post Friday again folks! Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we're preparing for our weekly scheduled just in time for the weekend "Winter Weather Advisory". 4-6" of Heavy Wet Snow predicted starting tonight through around noon tomorrow. I'll have to wait and see how that's going to affect my weekend plan of stripping a few industrial machines of parts for a machine building project. Went "Boneyard" hunting with the neighbor yesterday, and stopped by a guy he knows place that has a bunch of retired equipment, and after talking with Mike may have found almost everything required to build it. Mike didn't have time to let me search through the machines yesterday, but after I told him that I want to build a CNC machine said he'll be available over the weekend and most of next week. With just what I saw with a quick look, I could build a BIG Heavy Duty one. Mike said lucky you stopped by, those machines are headed for the scrap yard once they're torn down. All I can do is wait and see what Mother Nature's weekend plans for us are. So, What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
March 24, 20233 yr Popular Post Nothing that ambitious Larry! Today I may see the contractor show up to do drywall work in the garage. Sew back up those holes I made to inspect for termite damage. Lots of seams that need re-taping and holes filled prior to paint. Yes, I could have done it; No, I don't enjoy drywall work; Yes, it will be done much quicker than if I did it, Yes I have other things to do at the same time... I am working on the lower cabinets. Build the bases for them today and help out the drywall folks. Weekend is supposed to be rainy. That may impact my plans. I have plywood that I need to break down outside - shop is too crowded. If I can get them down into manageable sizes I have a bunch of drawers to build. If not, will be on other stuff TBD.
March 24, 20233 yr Popular Post Ambition just oozes from the core of my inner being! Bringing said ambition to fruition is another story. Now that Phyl's little live edged mesquite coffee table is done and in use, I'm back on the scroll saw stand....version III... versions I and II didn't work out too good. We'll see how V.III turns out. I'm about out of scraps, though.
March 24, 20233 yr Popular Post Not the best weekend ahead weather wise so I will probably find something in the shop to do.
March 24, 20233 yr Popular Post Man we are head up in rain these days, here in So Cal, we truly do need it, our reservoirs are back up, water levels and snow pack are excellent, hopefully this is a turn around in our 15 year drought pattern we have been experiencing. Mammoth CA is projecting a ski season to the end of July! Truck shopping for my son, with my son. He needs a truck, and his 1994 Saturn got wrecked, he's ok but the car is a total loss, twasn't worth much to begin with. So now he's bumming rides to work, till we find him a decent 2nd hand truck, 10 to 15 thou range, we'll be out and about this weekend looking. Got our eyes on this one, good price, good mileage, decent shape truck, if it drives and looks as good as the pictures, we'll seriously consider it, I think it's a perfect first time "car payment" type of truck for our 18yr old son, help build his credit too. 2006 FORD F150 FTX FLARESIDE 4.2L V6 LOW MILES - cars & trucks - by... March 24, 20233 yr Popular Post @John Morris I'd look that up on blue book . Down here 17 year old trucks just don't go for that much $$. Hope to get another coat of poly on the side table today. Storm coming in late this afternoon or early tonight. Yesterday finally found what was wrong with my landscape lights. It was not the power unit I replaced but a cut wire. I think I cut it digging up trees in the flower bed. Back door neighbor had 13 trees cut in his backyard . All pine except the Sweetgum and persimmon I got out of it . Not large trees bur should turn well. Tomorrow going with a couple club members to check on a cherry and maple down in a guys yard. With the knee not rehabbed enough to allow me easy up off the ground with a saw I will just be backup help.

Gerald, our market here is insane, everything is 20% or more over bluebook here in the west. The dealers aren't negotiating, they are firm on their pricing, and the inventory is low, it completely sucks. We don't have the cash on hand, so we almost have to go through a dealer financing, private party is hard to get to come to the bank with ya.
March 24, 20233 yr Looks like it will be a weekend of putting finish on a few boxes....and dealing with an upset stomach..... Got everything sanded down... Weather outside is ugly, supposed to rain off and on for the next week....
March 24, 20233 yr Popular Post Got the elm blanks cut from the slabs. Sealed the edges but not sure that was necessary as the slab was cut several years ago.
March 24, 20233 yr Author Popular Post 1 hour ago, Cal said: Nothing that ambitious Larry! Not so sure I'd call it ambitious Cal, more of "That Cheap %@$^@#&" in me showing again. I've been looking at quite a few of the "Package Machine" offerings, comparing features, sizes, capabilities, etc., etc., etc.. Then I get to the price tag. So I got to thinking that a good part of those package machines cost is in the computer, and software. Glad I asked about the software from the machines when the 4.0L, and 2.7L lines were scrapped. Of course some of the software goes back to the DOS days, and from what I can tell the newest NT4.0, maybe W2K. Not a problem though, the guys also put the operating systems in the box along with a bunch of manuals I've got to go through. I know I've got more than enough old computer hardware that can run those old OS's. That leaves the other half of the package, I looked at a lot of those package units and realized they're built with a lot of the same type of structural materials that get used in manufacturing machinery. Heck, when I was Skilled Trades I worked with a lot of those same materials.
March 24, 20233 yr Popular Post Expecting a larger vise along with a parallels set for my CNC mill to arrive today. Something to play with. Need to get working on cleaning up the yard. City will be by Tuesday to haul away any yard debris I leave at the curb. Picked up a Pizza at the Hut down the hill for lunch and likely dinner. Need to make a rig to hold my dial indicator up so I can measure the backlash on the X and Y axes of that CNC mill. That should be enough to keep me out of trouble over the weekend. Hoping some of it will tire me out as sleep is a hit and miss event lately. 4D
March 24, 20233 yr Popular Post Checked the workbench today. The only thing there was the leaf blower that was left there last fall. Hoping to get back to using the bench once the orthopedic doctor has helped my back. My next appointment is March 30. The shoulder injury is healing.
March 24, 20233 yr Popular Post making a carrot shaped bandsaw box for a guest later today. 4 layers of wood, should be enough space to hold pet remains down the road.

Sweet looking truck John. Rare to see an '06 without rust (of course you don't live in the rust belt either) and especially with low miles like this one. 4.2L is a good engine IMO. Kinda rare model for the year with the flareside, short bed. Wish I could find one like that here. I'd be all over it. Things I noticed from pictures (both CL & dealer site) and CARFAX: No accidents reported Sold new in Texas; 2nd owner also TX 3rd owner Utah Not that it's bad, but only one reported oil/filter change on CARFAX; Maybe self maintained or to shop(s) that don't report CARFAX Looks like rear shocks are original. No biggie; hundred bucks and hour in driveway will fix that CARFAX shows ignition coils replaced in '11. These and 5.4L are notorious for coil failures. Not difficult to replace when needed but don't buy Advance Auto coils based on my experience No evidence spark plugs have been replaced. Ford had a VERY BAD design for these; 2 piece plug; prone to breaking; need special tools to remove; only use a competent shop to change plugs. See similar in our area showing in excess of 200k miles. Current dealer bought at auction mid December so they've had for 90+days. I'd try doing some haggling on price Is there any warranty from dealer? 30, 60, 90 days? Anyways, certainly worth checking out. Be a great vehicle for Jeroid IMO. Good insurance rates due to year, good fuel economy plus sharp truck. Good luck; keep us posted.
March 24, 20233 yr Popular Post Finally mustered up ambition to register on-line a variety of Ryobi tool purchases going back a few months. Other than batteries, all are yard or automotive related tools except an impact driver ("freebie") which also identifies as a woodshop tool. I think oldest granddaughter will be home later tonight through Sunday afternoon for her fall break before she leaves with friends going to Myrtle Beach, SC. Senior year last hurrah. Good news is she passed her "comprehensive finals" required to graduate. Foreboding weather forecast doesn't lend to outside work. Church activites Sunday, then take youngest granddaughter across state back to campus.
March 24, 20233 yr Author Looks like Mother Nature isn't going to give us a break. Latest weather "Winter Storm Warning" in effect from 4:00 AM until Noon tomorrow with forecasted heavy wet snow accumulations of 6-10". Don't think we'll be going to Mike's tomorrow.

March 25, 20233 yr Popular Post We are in the middle of a downtown building renovation project here. Somehow I managed to volunteer to build a pair of oak handrails for the restaurant that will be going in. Not hard but time consuming because all the angle are weird.

The storm went north of us and at least one small town mayor said last night the town was destroyed. I see they are saying 14 dead but probably several more out there.
