December 30, 20223 yr Popular Post The last Friday of 2022, I don't know about you, but I might just stay up to bid it farewell, it's been one heck of a ride. Hopefully things will slow down a bit in the coming New Year, but I don't see it happening soon. StepDIL is having a fit that Stepson is going to have to use her car to start his new job at Harley Davidson. After the recent thaw our driveway is now a mudpit, and I'm not going to drop an engine/transmission assembly in the mud. And of course they don't have the money for the parts, so she's giving us the we need help, and refuses to admit we have bills also routine. Enough of that. Our plans for the weekend consist of having my brother and SIL here this afternoon for a cookout on the grill since the temperature will be close to 50° today. The rest of the weekend will consist of me turning the phone off! Oh Yea, What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
December 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Joined the funnel club yesterday and scrapped a hollow form. Cut right through the bottom of the darn thing. I guess you could say I made artisanal firewood. Coffee with Steve the gunsmith this morning. Shop time later today. The "move the compressor" project is stalled yet again. Need to get that back on track. Haven't been able to find a broken freezer thus far. Maybe I need to hire Sacajawea to find one. .40
December 30, 20223 yr Popular Post At least you can spell her name, I would have had to look it up. Anyway, with the warmer temps I might get out to the shop and do some fiddling. But I got a new long lens for my camera for Christmas and may try to get outside and do some nature photography. Should mention: for those who have a Menards's, the (now) annual bag sale is where they hand out kraft paper bags that are slightly smaller than the old grocery store bags and anything that fits in the bag can be bought with a 15% reduction in price. Several years ago I needed a recip saw, and it fit in the bag (begrudgingly). It goes on for 2 weeks so I have some time to ponder. Edited December 30, 20223 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr
December 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Got a little maple blank on the lathe before another "emergency" required my attention elsewhere. May be able to get back to it later this weekend.
December 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Been making more awls. Got the finish on a batch yesterday. Have a few errands to run today. May wait until next week depending on traffic.
December 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Son is coming to finish the hand rail for the front steps we build two weeks ago. He's also going to finish the automatic gate thingie. If he doesn't need any help, I'll be playing with the scroll saw.
December 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Bad Migraine yesterday....Migraine "Hangover" today... Shop is out of lumber, at the moment. Might just kick back and enjoy the weekend..

Only if I don't decide to put them on hold until maybe the second Tuesday of next week.
December 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Going with SIL to "boneyard" in a bit. He needs an eprom for his '93 GMC 4.3L, K1500 work truck. They should have one. I did find the eprom on eBay for $35 shipped but it will be a week. Boneyard will sell the entire ECM/PCM for $30. Only 15 minutes up the road from here. Sure wish the rain would quit for a few minutes. At least the mosquitoes and snakes shouldn't be a problem today. Church responsibilities Sunday. Mrs. went back to work today to begin end of month and year business close so I'm unsupervised. I heard somewhere there might be a football game or two on TV the next few days. I'll check to be sure. Not much else going on.
December 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Working on the sharpening station today. It has been quite a few years since I actually did legitimate cabinetry and I am digging deep into the memory banks to remember things I had forgotten. Face frames were a lot easier on a pneumatic face frame table. I think that is the tool I have missed the most in this process.

December 30, 20223 yr Author Popular Post 37° RF 29° Cloudy, I'm going out and firing up the "Grill" if I can remember where I put the Charcoal.
December 30, 20223 yr Popular Post Neighbor called and asked if I wanted 5 pecan logs. 2 are 16"x16" and the other 3 are a tad smaller. Logs 0 Honda Ridgeline =1 Glad someone had the good sense to install a crane. Pick 'em up out of the cart and put 'em in the shop. Those 2 big ones have to weigh upwards of #200. .40 Edited December 30, 20223 yr by forty_caliber
December 30, 20223 yr Popular Post SIL just called on way home with his truck He'd taken boneyard PCM to shop that worked on transmission. Takes 15 min to swap. SIL said truck has never performed or shifted this good. Apparently it had an aftermarket PCM and likely eProm. Transmission shop replaced torque converter and pump under warranty plus went through transmission again. They had just rebuilt a little over a year ago. SIL said they treated him VERY fairly. Anyways SIL is happy camper to have his work truck back. He now can store again his '18 Challenger Plum Crazy 6.2 Hemi for the winter. Great car for summer...not so much in snow. December 31, 20223 yr Popular Post Actually cut a few pieces for the side table. Working on last Christmas gift, and sprayed some poly on the new drawers. Boy that sounds like a lot, Think I'd better get some rest.
December 31, 20223 yr Popular Post Yesterday, son and grandson got most of the work done on the automatic gate system. Methinks he bit off more than he bargained for. He did get the railing installed on the new front door landing and steps, though. He'll be back to finish the gate, today. Pic's of the front landing and gate, later. I got a little practice on the scroll saw. 'Taint as easy to get it even a straight line, as I thought it would be. More practice is definitely needed.
December 31, 20223 yr Popular Post I had a pretty good "last Friday". Mostly sunny and upper 60's. Began assembly of dresser drawers... Blew out the shop and end of the driveway in preparation for finish. It is raining this morning and supposed to rain most of the day. Couple college ball games on today , and that will take me into or very close to 2023. Go Georgia Bulldawgs!!!
December 31, 20223 yr Popular Post I’m going to try to relax a little. Trying to get motivated to sell my old miter saw. Then I need to figure out a new design for the miter saw to fit on my ‘power table.’ I know I am going to have figure something out for my planer to be moved somewhere new.
