I love it when folks are standing tall and proud of their creations, look at all the smiles from this group after building their chairs by axe and by hand. :)

"Green woodworking is cheap, safe and immediate. It is from a recently felled tree that still has the moisture from the living plant in it. The wood is relatively soft and easy to work and does not produce dust while working. Green wood can be cleft easily, enabling rapid sizing. Using green wood negates the need to "season" the wood before working it. The worked pieces can then be dried very quickly and assembled when dry."

I love watching these folks with their green woodworking methods and ways, have you ever thought of making garden tools from wood?

"So, how does he put it all together? There a couple of steps to the process that Paul undertakes to make these beautiful rakes."

To catch up from last week, I done my civic duty and voted.  I honestly think during the past month between the general and this runoff election that the political ads were more frequent and dirtier.  Boy oh boy will I be glad come Wednesday (?) and this part of the process will be behind us...  It seems like on every commercial break on tv/youtube/or just reading the news on the phone or computer there are political ads.  Every 30 minutes I get an email or text message wanting money and nearly every phone call now is a spammer reminding me/asking me to vote for "their" candidate.

Enough complaining, I got things to do!  Saturday I watched a couple college ball games, maybe 2 1/2 games.  They were all good games, unless of course you were favoring the loosing team.  Your number 1 Georgia Bulldogs racked up a solid win and will next face off the Ohio State University - not sure which team our son will be rooting for :)

Doing a bit more work in the upper garage to prepare for painting the front wall.  Got to pick up some drywall mud to do repairs.  Also been working on drawer parts for our daughters dresser.  I bought some "good" "cabinet grade" birch ply from my usual supplier, but boy howdy, these things look more like the china stuff from BORG.  Requiring a bunch of sanding on the edges.  So, I think that's what is on my agenda for the week ahead - sanding - either drywall mud or drawer edges, but sanding.

Well It was a productive weekend all around.  Saturday, I wound up cooking an impromptu post-Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving dinner for the wife’s family.

Turkey, stuffing, gravy, green bean casserole, rolls, mac and cheese, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie… So I didn’t get a lot done in the shop.

Made up for it a bit on Sunday and got some stuff done on the wife’s patio chair.  The base is completed and the back got glued up last night.

Even had some fun on the lathe and turned a couple of pegs that will support the reclining angle of the back once installed.

This one has been a bit of a challenge skill wise but I learned some valuable things:

1. When working with hand tools grain direction is really important.

2. Tuning a shoulder plane for tenon cheeks and haunches first requires it to be sharp, really sharp.

3. A router plane is just the trick to make sure the bottom of a blind mortise is level.

4. Setting your marking gauge to the exact width of your mortise chisel makes the whole operation so much simpler.

5. Get a good hand saw for cutting tenons ( I will be following this advise shortly)

6. If you are going to do chamfers by hand, lay them out with a marking gauge and make sure your block plane is sharp to avoid tearout. Using a sanding block on one corner first allows you to establish an angle and remove material prone to splintering or tearout when you plane it.

7. Turning white oak is a bit of a challenge, patience and sharp tools are critical.

8. A good workbench is worth every drop of the blood, sweat, and tears it takes to make it.

Monday

Down to 3 DTC codes on Bruce's 05 Express, started out with 46. <_<

Waiting for bulbs for the instrument cluster which should clear the C0 455 Dimmer Circuit Code.

( Only one bulb out of nine working on a parallel circuit = high resistance reading)

Still working on getting the SRS (Air Bag) B0 022, & B0 026 codes to clear, will have to see if I can access the programing for the SRS Control Module.

I could tell somebody that didn't have a clue what they were doing had been in the system, several functions were shut off.

If I can't reset the SRS Control Module it takes the same module as the 03-05 2500, & 3500 so a trip to the boneyard might be in order. OEM replacement is $546.00

Replacing the module would require reprogramming the VIN # into the replacement module, that I've figured out how to do.

:throbbinghead:

On another note, Bruce is now trying to get a drivers side front corner wrecked 2018 Dodge ProMaster van.

I told him "Man, those things are Butt Ugly".

Carpet installers coming tomorrow, getting the room ready for them to work. I want them to be able to come in and get out as fast as possible, so everything is cleared out for them to get started. Then I redo all I've undone so they can come back Friday and do the second adjoining room. I had to work it out this way to accommodate Marie's handicap issues.

Had a great day at Jingle Bell last Saturday, Almost sold out of one of my best sellers. Today cleaned up the shop a bit and started on Christmas presents. Wednesday going to demo at a school, woodturning. Thursday demoing at the Ag Museum, just a 3 hour show for this one.

Mostly together today.  I have to turn a couple of Pegs to hold the bottom of the back assembly in place.

The simple way to do it is to turn a couple 1/2” x 3” dowels and a separate 1” x 1” cap and drill and glue.

I am going to see if I can turn them all of a piece like the upper pegs and see if anything blows up on me this time.

Well I started this hours ago but continued to encounter the weird download box when I tried to submit reply. Now it just embeds the weird script at the bottom. Odd it seems to only do it in this thread. Anyways, @John Morrisis on the case so...

Weekend was busy with plenty of windshield time. Grandson's 6th grade basketball team finished 2nd in the tourney. Afterwards, found an "old time, nostalgic" diner in the rear of an active, independent pharmacy, family owned since 1885. Reminded me of the old Rexall stores we had as I grew up before the chains came to town. It was  downtown directly across from the courthouse square. The diner seated 20-25 people. Our waitress was probably in her late 70's to mid 80's. The fry cook a little younger. One of the best grilled tenderloins and homemade Cole slaw I've had. The service was fantastic!! My wife really enjoyed it for her birthday lunch along with our daughter and SIL. Bad thing was the other side, half of the pharmacy was an old time Hallmark store so Mrs. felt obligated:lol: to make a few purchases there too. It was her birthday so what could I do. Had great conversation with all the staff and some of the other patrons. We plan to visit again for their Breakfast Specials.

Today I did most of my domestic duties. 6th grade ballgames TU & TH nights. Both away. Couple of meetings at church  WE afternoon and evening. Friday, early AM Vet appointments for the cats.

No word on the Buick today, so planning an early AM trip TU to see what's going on. Need a few things from Rural King while I'm in the big city.

pay no attention to this text. It self embeds; I can't get rid of it...

Edit add...hmm it doesn't display in the post, just remains in the Reply field for next post. I've c&p it for example:

Geeze Dave, doe's that bring back some memories. :DayDreaming:

You just described the old Mayer Drugstore (Rexall sign on the roof) in downtown Kenosha, WI.. (Complete with Hallmark shop.)

Miss the old Woolworths also, they had the best Liver & Onions. :Eat:

Ya mean I missed Monday?    Not really....just didn't do anything....maybe pay a bill or 2, take out the trash......MIGHT try for a glue up in a little bit?

Cussing was involved...but

Now there is a forest of clamps on my bench....

I am not sure what is going on there but please be careful.  If you compress that just a little bit more, it will collapse into a singularity and devour the planet!!
That would make me sad because that is where all the people I know live and it’s where I keep all my stuff :)

My mom used to take the pre-elementary school me to the Woolworths lunch counter when we made the trip into town.  I usually got 1/2 a patty-melt.  I'll pass on the used filters and onions though.
