Managed to find enough time between meetings today to knock out a charcuterie board for my brother.

A drum sander would have made it a lot easier.

 My mom broke hers years ago, I won't say how. <_<

Yep, it was a Monday. Laptop refused to talk to GM Tech2, and vice-versa. :WonderScratch:

So I swapped in the spare SSD and loaded XP Pro SP3 to do a full install.

I'll find out sometime this morning if having the correct hardware drivers makes a difference.

Running XP in virtual mode doesn't allow installing the correct drivers.  :PullingHair:

:ChinScratch: I got the Tech2, and laptop to see each other, had to adjust Com1 Baud rates to lowest settings and enable pass-through mode setting.

Now I just have to figure out how to enable the Candi interface module so I can access the CANBUS system.

The owners guides are very vague, doesn't mention having to enable pass-through mode setting. (Doesn't mention a lot I'm finding out.) :Tapping:

I did however find a set of "sort of training videos" on a Saab owners forum this morning. <_<

BION they're titled...

:throbbinghead:

"Tech2 For Dummies!" :JawDrop:

I briefly started watching one of the videos, and low and behold one of the first things the presenter mentioned/showed was enabling the pass-through mode/adjust baud rates in the Tech2 so that you can use the laptop with the Tech2.

 Of course I find these videos after I spent about 3 hours figuring this out for myself "The Hard Way". :PullingHair:

:ChinScratch: Looks like I've got a few hours of videos to watch.

Bweep, Brawap, Broing,...

It's kind of like adding a phone line modem to a PC in the days before and including early versions of Windows 95. If everythings not set just right it won't work.

Well Shozbot!

Rough turned pecan bowl started as a log this morning.  1st prepared blank using the new bandsaw and circle cutting jig.  The round blank made a huge difference in starting lathe speed...550rom,   This wood was very very wet. It maxed out my moisture meter so it had to be above 50%.  I had to keep wiping my face shield to remove water droplets.

Packed in shavings to dry.

Turned like butter though, didn't it?  I do like the shape of it.

Not sure if the drivers are the problem, others have got this thing to work in XP Virtual Mode.

Once I get the settings right, I might try running it again in the virtual mode environment.

Problem is none of the manuals/guides I've found explain how to set it up.

Then again once I get it working I may just add the Honda Diagnostic System onto the XP. I know how to get that one working.

Bruce had a friend stop by with one of those Foxwell scanners that's supposed to do service functions, and some programming functions.

It couldn't access the areas we need to access.

I did find a little over 2 1/2 hour GM Tech2 training video, hopefully it shows the steps required that the manuals/guides don't explain.

One of the things I dislike about MS is the loss of support for older OS's. It's amazing to see how many different industries are still using integrated XP software.

They didn't call us "The Cavemen" of the auto industry for nothing Lew.

We still had machines running on DOS, NT 3.5, NT 4.0, etc. when they closed the plant in 2012.
