October 9, 20223 yr I had a bowl that I tried to put a poly finish over wax and it came out very bad. I sanded it back down and am redoing the finish without the wax.
October 10, 20223 yr Author I was watching a Cindy Drozda video yesterday and she mentioned you can put shellac over anything and then finish over that.

October 10, 20223 yr Shellac is a universal sealer. Can go on oil base and then apply acrylic or the reverse. I would not suggest anything over wax as Lew said it will not stay. You can remove wax with alcohol. Just remember no wax till finish is cured and you are done.
