August 22, 20223 yr Popular Post What I got done over the weekend - I did get the garage ceiling primered and rolled on a texture. I also noticed while on the scaffolding that the header over the garage door has some rot Plan to meet up with the big guns tomorrow for breakfast and see when they might be able to come out and assess/fix the problem. For the week ahead, a lot of painting. Garage ceiling and walls. Yard work and the normal stuff. SWMBO leaves out tomorrow for a girl's trip - I'll be on my own this week...
August 22, 20223 yr Popular Post Not much woodworking got done over the weekend. Son and family came for a visit, Saturday. Son and, grandson got on the patio's metal roof and tightened a few screws and, added a few, to remedy some small leaks. Then, we installed a new lamp above the kitchen sink and counter. 4 LEDs. It's sure bright, now. Sunday was a day of rest for me. Today, it's back to sanding 12 Limbert legs. Might get to the shelves, too. Might get to assembly sometime this week. The end is near for what may be my last furniture project. Although, my son wants to use the shop to build some patio/deck chairs for his place. I'm anxiously looking forward to doing some small stuff.
August 22, 20223 yr Popular Post Got the zero-turn fixed, did some string mowing yesterday. Gave up when the Sun was turning the dew into steam. Have a few more downed trees/branches to clean up from Saturdays windy storm that left behind about 8/10th's" of rain. They still say we're about 2-3" below average for rainfall. Will also be helping neighbor get his new (2005 Express Extended Van) checked over, Has a problem with the "Stabilitrak" system, and something going on with the front suspension. Also need to put a roof rack on it. The old 95's transmission is about done, and it's so rusty he's not going to bother doing a transmission on it. And of course, ... More Mowing.
August 22, 20223 yr Popular Post Got the tray into the clamps.. And these clamps came off this morning....needed to glue the plywood panel in place... Even ran a scroll saw over the weekend

August 22, 20223 yr Popular Post Weekend: No shop time except for vehicles. More vehicle related work, tasks, shuttling on tap this week. Had a great time out with our family and pastors family for lunch yesterday at an area steak house. Still full from that meal. Online auction items to pick up tomorrow. Scored IMO a good deal on a Fein RT1800 router with a few accessories and a bunch of other random stuff in the lot. Also bought an older Craftsman router for cheap. Same model as my first one from mid 70's. As Norm taught us, you never can have too many routers Even though we're considered in a moderate drought area, we've received enough soaking rain, heavy dews, fog mornings the grass is green, growing and in need of mowing again. The weeds are flourishing as well so mowing, trimmings other yard work on the agenda. Family night cook-out planned for Wednesday evening as both grand-daughters return to campus this coming weekend.

Got this mid-1800s beam from a reclamation yard Friday. Vended Saturday . Learning "What Women Want" and am gearing into that design. "Harvesting from 1800s heartpine beam" yesterday and today. May put up a gallery series under Lumber, Milling and Forestry if I can remember how to upload them so they display in sequence ... This is definitely the largest and most nail-ridden beam yet! But I'm getting long lengths, needed for partition and table frames. 10" or even better, a 16" circular saw is on the wish list. Barring that, a thin kerf chain saw. The 'Scrappy Spruce Shelf" series @John Morris linked to, I use that every day. I thought it would be too wide but took a smaller shelf down to mount this one. It's just right. Ties the wall together nicely. Those c.1927 nickel-plated brass hooks? Virtually unobtainable at this point. So many have been scrapped! There are two screws affixing it to the wall, the heads behind the hooks. This is half the beam, TODAY'S MASSIVE EFFORT Yesterday I took some of the nicer stock off the bottom. And saved the hand-hewn - axe and framing chisel - tapered skin from the base.
