Got both logs bucked up into rounds yesterday. The ole hoe wouldn't start in the morning for some reason maybe the time change dunno so I had to use the small Kubota tractor bucket to try and lift the small end of the log and a felling wedge to keep the saw from getting stuck. Got the ole hoe started after a nap and the second log went pretty quick. Be making firewood today... most of the rounds are big enough I'll have to roll them in the bucket of the Kubota and haul them to the splitter. Might even have to noodle the bottom rounds first.

Spent the day driving into the dark side of Massachusetts to resupply my wife's very pregnant daughter in Lowell.

6/4? I need 13x15

Translate for the newbie, please. Does this mean a piece of wood 13” x 15” x 1.5” ? And it is a piece ripped vertically from the log?

If one has the right equipment, can rounds like this be sawn into usable planks? Riftsawn to visually maximize the growth rings along the width of the board? There's a round about 4' x 3', the end grains look healthy and intact, been laying for a while down the hill yonder.

Or is there something I do not quite get when tree guys say, "It's only good for firewood." ?

When you have a pile of red oak and a stack of rough cut white oak in your shop but your firewood bins are not full it's firewood. I must admit there could have been some nice straight grained boards in that tree. Next up is a 24" burl hickory tree in the way of a 36" diameter white oak that died last summer. Their both for lumber for sure... except the limb wood and tops which will be firewood. I prefer to stay warm in the winter when working in my shops.

I actually got a lot of firewood from this red oak tree after milling the boards and culling.

I'm so envious. I've no need for firewood but, that stack of red oak is certainly drool worthy.

Been busy absorbing stuff from my Dad's shop to my own collection. This week's fun was 4 trays and 2 shelves.

Good idea I have a tray full of plastic and aluminum knobs off of RX storage boxes. These are about 1/2 x 3/4 so perfect size.
