January 29, 20224 yr Popular Post and up to 15" of snow predicted for next week. But, I know spring is coming and with spring comes wrens. So, just put the first coat of linseed oil on a couple acorn style wren houses, exterior only. Roughed these out a few years ago but pretty sure they are spalted beech. One walnut roof and one red elm roof. Roof is held in place by the little piece of wood that is just wider than the top hole and then it will wedge tight as the eye bolt is tightened. That makes for pretty easy clean out. I do need a longer eye bolt though.
January 29, 20224 yr Popular Post Very nice. The birds will love them. I like how the hanger is also the lid stay.

January 29, 20224 yr Popular Post Great idea and I was going to ask about the stands which Lew clarified.
January 30, 20224 yr Popular Post Those are awesome Steve. Clever idea for top retainer, hanger. I had not heard the bad news about the snowfall amounts.

Thanks Dave. I guess it depends on who you listen to. Weather underground has been predicting it but they are all over the place. This morning they are saying 7+" on Wednesday and nearly 7 on Thursday. Local TV guy says it may just be a wintery mix.

Our area is now being warned of the impending doom.....worse yet, they are showing some warmer temps (upper 20s, low 30s) which might make that a very wet snow.
January 30, 20224 yr Popular Post Those bird houses are top notch Steve! Good luck with the winter storm. We had a similar thing happen last weekend. Winter storm warnings were issued by NWS, but it sorta comical the way it read. High winds in some areas, wintery mix in some areas - we are just not sure where those areas will be! I wish I had taken a screen shot of it. Anyhow, the new Wren families ought to be real happy with the new construction
January 30, 20224 yr Popular Post You guys in the paths of these winter storms are a hardy lot. Nevertheless, you have my sincere sympathies and hopes, for early spring like weather. Your winter has been brutal.
January 30, 20224 yr Popular Post And if you need some wrens just give me a shipping address. I hate those critters. Would you like to know how I feel about them.

Several were showing various weather apps all aligning pretty close with you. I haven't seen Fox59 take on it yet...they seem to be the most accurate of the Indy stations. WeatherBug is non-commital so far. I'm hoping for a direct miss. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
January 30, 20224 yr Popular Post @Steve Krumanaker I love those acorn birdhouses. I have one I bought at a Wood magazine auction when they had their woodworking site years ago. I can post a photo if you'd like. Paid a hefty price at the auction but worth every penny.
January 31, 20224 yr Popular Post Here is my version. Did about a dozen of these quite a few years ago.
