November 16, 20214 yr Popular Post John, that video reminds me of the show Barnwood Builders. They carefully tear down log houses and cabins to repurpose them. But the construction techniques are so similar. I love how it fits together so neatly as if machined. And, it appears to be all hand hewn. Stunning. Well, got started on the rosary box. Sides cut and fit. Need to cut the masonite for the bottom, make the legs or make a secret drawer. Not sure since our son suggested a couple of ideas tonight. Will think of something.

Glad you like it Steven, and yes, it's all hand hewn!
November 16, 20214 yr Popular Post Got the last ton of rock off the truck and spread in Phyl's back flower garden area. Even with both of us shovelling and raking, it took most of the day. but, that included many breaks to get out of the sun and rest a bit. A ton of rocks is...well, a ton of work. Still got a bit more to do this morning. Then, one of her bits of garden decor is an old milk can we've lugged around for 30 years. She wants it sanded and painted blue to match the fountain. We're certainly not landscape artists by any means but, it's turning out pretty good. At least it looks interesting. And, she's happy! Looks like shop work is delayed for another day!
November 16, 20214 yr Popular Post Cool video. This is what happens when shipwrights build a house! Techniques are very much in common with wooden ships...tree nails, strong joints. I really like that they carbonized the surfaces in places to prevent rot. Metal plates on top of the stone foundation to keep things level, and a crane is kind of cheating in a purist kind of way. .40

I need to finish the milk can and place it among the plants and trees, first. Got all the rust off and the primer on, today. Tomorrow is my booster shot, grocery shopping (same place) and a hair cut (next door to the grocery store). That's all pretty handy...once I get there. It's a 22 mile trip, one way. But, the scenery is nice.
November 17, 20214 yr On putting the rafters on that building, I kept waiting for the ropes and either oxen or mules. It was disappointing to see them use a crane.
November 18, 20214 yr Popular Post @Gunny, when your mechanic's fingers get all cold and numb this winter, you and your bride need to come on out here. I could certainly use your shop arranging skills.
