Friday September 3rd 2021-What's on Your Weekend Agenda?

Friday again folks, we made it to another weekend!

Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" we've been enjoying a bit of cooler less humid weather.

After the Triple H weather of the past couple of weeks I took it easy Monday. :P

Tuesday was another story. I went to one of the auto boneyards that allows you to remove your own parts.

I've been looking for about a year for a steering box for my 2000 Dodge PU.

It's a standard cab short bed and takes a steering box that was only used for three model years, and are known for developing a leak where the pitman arm shaft exits out the bottom of the box. Mine was leaking so bad you could watch a steady stream of PS fluid run out. Glad I went and looked, the only truck they had that had the right steering box had a non leaker. :P

I was only there for about 5 minutes when the guy that moves the vehicles around was coming to get it for the crusher.

The parts stores wanted around $1100.00 for a rebuilt, new is over $1200.00 :JawDrop:

Boneyard price $75.00 if they removed it $45.00 if you remove it yourself. :ChinScratch:

:throbbinghead:

Of course I removed it myself. Have the blisters too prove it. :Tapping:

And while I was there, spotted a 2008 Honda Pilot that had near perfect seats, door panels, and carpet.

So, that led to a return trip on Wednesday, and a rather full Pilot on the return home.

Wasn't there more than 20 minutes before a twenty something came up and asked "What are you getting from this Pilot"?

I replied "The seats". He replied "I knew I should have came back sooner".

Need to go back today, should have gotten the wiring harness for the drivers power seat. :BangingHead:

Well at least everything that would have to be removed to get at it is out of the way. <_<

Mowed the 2 1/2 acre yard at the Antique Mall next door yesterday. Possible :BlackCloud:today.

After I'm done today, I may take the rest of the weekend off. :WhoMe:

I'm getting a bit :OldManSmiley: for this $hit. <_<

:ChinScratch: So, What's on your weekend agenda?

Thanks to the improved weather this past week, I was able to complete a lot of the outside stuff that I was planning for this weekend. So maybe I'll get to putz around in the shop some, I have a small bowl blank mounted in the lathe that's the current effort. Other than that, I'm just trying to not catch the new Covid strain.

I've got quite a bit of stuff on the list for this weekend.  While I was in Houston earlier this week, the car just happened to swing over to Clark's Hardwood instead of going straight home like I told it.

I picked up a big chunk of cocobolo and canary wood while I was there.  Planning on a lidded bowl with the canary wood as the lid.  Thinking about adding a cherry foot and finial but haven't quite decided yet.

Last week while I was cranking the tail stock, the handle broke off.  The nice lady at PowerMatic sent me a new handle under warranty but it has the wrong threads.  Will be drilling and tapping to fit the new one. 3/8 x 16 by my measurement.  Larger bolt will stand up better over time...I hope.

Have a couple of green blanks that need to be rough turned.

Before I can do any turning, I have to sit down and sharpen the gouges and scrapers.  We've got guests coming Monday and I will be cooking up some baby back ribs on the smoker.

The box elder bowls left yesterday. Have orders for 2 rolling pins so I'll be creating lots of 1/8" thick insert pieces.

I was just wondering how hard you were cranking on it. I usually use the wheel when drilling or snugging up a blank. Just want to make sure I don't fall into what you hit. Oh mine is 3520B and yours is?

Got to start some power washing on porch in prep for club meeting here next Saturday. Then chop out a little more of the ground cover on the hill---fun,fun,fun.

I've got the 2014.  I wasn't cranking on it at all, just moving it forward to contact the center.  When I looked at the metal where it broke, there was a line of rust inside.  I think it was a manufacturing defect.

Made the boneyard run and got a bit more than the wiring harness parts.

And of course now that I've got plenty of parts it's :BlackCloud:Not complaining we need the :BlackCloud:

But now I've got to figure out where to stash everything, the Pilots kind of full. <_<100_2181.JPG.aa25961429a3d28dcd52e19b328c35e9.JPG

:ChinScratch: Maybe I'd better let these heal up a bit first though.

Tailstock might have been dropped in assembly process. Sounds like you got good service and like you they strengthened the connection after problems occured

I bid good bye to my old Pontiac yesterday.  Except for about three years that the son had it in South Carolina I have owned this car for the past 50 years.  Car hauler came yesterday morning, said they may deliver it today in Columbus, OH.  Should any of you up there spot it, wave and say hello to it's new owner, our son James.

Spent the afternoon cleaning up the Plymouth and went to the local cruise in afterwards.

And watched UGA in their win over Clemson last night.  That was a good game, even better with a UGA win :D

Sending to a family member makes it easier but not by much I'm sure.  Gotta be more than just a few memories being trucked to Ohio.

Yet another oak bowl into the soapy water soak.  Some spalting and nice grain in this one, but it has cracks along the end grain.  I treated them with CA glue.  Have to see how this one goes.

Started on the cocobolo box project.  Absolutely gorgeous piece of wood.  It is very dry and very hard, I get dust and little fine ribbons.  I've very thankful for the Hunter Hercules.  Dulls HSS fast.  Has kind of a spicy smell.
