August 28, 20214 yr Popular Post No woodworking. Been working on swivel mount for a light pole. Used a wheel bearing assembly from a Nissan then drilled and taped some holes for the angle. Tad bit of grinding to shape it out.
August 28, 20214 yr Popular Post Hello all, I’m not doing any woodworking until the living arrangement changes, but I am recuperating well and hope to be back to turning soon. 😊

I had a Jeep CJ7 when we were a young married couple, lost my rear shaft, just flew off to the side of the road, never found it. Was ready to call a tow and scratched my head and remembered, hey, stick it in 4 wheel and I got me a front wheel driving Jeep! Hey, it got us home.

Was ready to call a tow and scratched my head and remembered, hey, stick it in 4 wheel and I got me a front wheel driving Jeep! Hey, it got us home. They attempted this same trick. Unfortunately, the rear driveshaft did not fly away. It stayed in a cage and kept jamming up against the floorboard. Eventually piercing through and bringing the vehicle to an abrupt halt. Took about 30 minutes to free driveshaft enough to move vehicle. On my back in the parking lot. Yeah, fun stuff.
August 29, 20214 yr Popular Post Had first day of theater build. Off to a kind of slow start by first contemplating going up on the roof and looking at an a/c compressor. After 30 minutes gave up on that idea. Then moving some of the material and old set parts around. There are three platforms, two are 6' circles and one is a 12'x6' ellipse. The shop "foreman" tried to lay it out and I had to tell him immediately that his plan would not work, despite what he saw on the internet last night. While we had a lunch, I did a bit of algebra and found the magic numbers for the foci and laid it out. Then another guy and I proceeded to make the support frame until the price of OSB drops a bit for making the deck. Just for info, the foci are 62 3/8" (roughly) from the center on the long axis.

August 29, 20214 yr Popular Post Friday, we had a very nice visit with an old friend, a lady Lumber Jock from OK. She stayed overnight and, Saturday morning, we all went out to our favorite breakfast place. To get there from our place requires a beautiful drive through part of the Saguaro National monument. After a few camera stops, we got there. The restaurant is a local favorite and, we had a 30 minute wait for a table. But, it was well worth the wait. She had borrowed her sister's car to drive down from Scottsdale and, she needed to get the car back so, she had to leave around 13:00. By then, it was too hot to work in the shop. Plus, it was nap time. Today might be another day for the everlasting job of weed eradication from the gravel drives. That depends on the rain forecast. If it rains within 24 hours of the application of the pre emergent weed killer, it will be all for naught. That stuff is too expensive and the application process is too much work to take any chances. So, I might get in a shop day. Monday is totally filled with other business. After an 08:00 appointment with an eye doc, we hope to be able to pick up our new riding mower at the freight carrier's dock. Getting it home and un crated will take me well into Tuesday. Then, we need to play with it. Thursday may be the next day in the shop. Friday, for sure...I hope!!!
August 29, 20214 yr Roughed out another blank. Spalted oak from the neighbor's tree. Soaking in the soapy water solution until Wednesday. .40
