The grain is fabulous.  Hope it survives.  I'll keep my finger crossed for you.

Pecan bowl from the tree work yesterday.  I give this bowl 1 chance in 3 of surviving to 2nd turning...punky spots and cracks.

Pile of shavings for this bowl.

Looks nice so far. Do you saturate punky stuff with CA? This is one I would soak in soap and water for a couple of days then into shavings. Check it every week or so for cracks/splits and use CA on them.

I did saturate with CA.  I'm not familiar with the soapy water treatment.  What are the details?

Here's a couple of links for the same information. Some slightly different content, but the general idea is the same. The first link is from, as far as I have been able to determine, the fellow who developed- or at least published- the process.

I've had pretty good success with it. Usually soak for about 3 days then into shavings for a while- depending on the size. Bigger stays longer. I'm currently experimenting with a small bowl that is going to go directly from the soak to a "kiln" to see if that makes any difference.

I mixed up a batch of the soap mixture and put the pecan bowl in.  I saw a video a while back of another Hawaiian turner that soaked his green bowls in linseed oil for a couple of weeks.  They were translucent after 2nd turning.
