July 23, 20214 yr Welcome to Friday again folks. Here in "Two Weeks From Anywhere" land we're getting ready for a scorching few days of the 90's with dewpoints in the upper 60's. Don't think it's going to be much fun trying to work on anything outside for a few days. So I guess I'll be doing early mornings, and late afternoons trying to get the Pilot running again, if possible. Might try putting an umbrella over my right in the sun work area, but I've got a feeling it won't help much. Already getting very sticky here before 7:00 AM. So,...What's on your weekend agenda? Hopefully something more fun, and cooler than what I'll be doing!
July 23, 20214 yr Big tree down in the yard this morning. Free wood to anyone who helps take it down IMG_0496.mp4 .40
July 23, 20214 yr Popular Post Finishing up finishing the deck. Power washed it yesterday. Apply the nonskid finish today, then try to keep the dog off of it until it dries. (Had to buy an extra gallon of finish because the Mrs. wants to help ) Edited July 23, 20214 yr by lew
July 23, 20214 yr Popular Post Forty looks like that limb fell just right to be cutup. Hoping to get back into shop as I finished the antibiotic today. Hired someone to clean out my gutters yesterday and he was supposed to come back to dig the rest of the shrubs I am taking out. Then the dirt work begins.
July 23, 20214 yr Popular Post Just about done with the work bench. Finished installing the top of 2 pieces of 3/4 MDF. Still need to install the oak banding around the edges. Then some sort of finish. Probably a couple coats of Watco followed by some poly. Then, back to pallet slat trimming. My Smiths haven't seen this much continuous work in some time. I showed Juan (Owner) the oak bowls from the wood he brought me from the neighbor's tree couple of weeks ago. He was pretty excited about it. Had never seen a lathe before. I promised him one of those bowls when ready. We talked about the pieces that I chose and why. He said he would keep bringing me wood now that he knows what to look for. .40

July 23, 20214 yr Popular Post Busy day for everyone. Patti & I spent the day in our kitchen, me cutting & fitting 10 sheets of underlayment and her breaking in my new air stapler. She was a little surprised after she went thru her first box of staples, and really surprised after the second 1000. All told over 4000 staples and she and the gun performed flawlessly. We are both kicking back this weekend & nursing our matching blisters, floor to be installed Monday.
July 23, 20214 yr Popular Post Piano bookcase has been sitting for a week waiting for my daughter's family to get back in town. I need help to get it out of the shop and packed up for delivery. Meanwhile, I'm making a memory box for the piano donors from some of the leftover pieces. A bit more assembly, then on to finish. Biggest challenge now is finding some screws that are less than 3/8" long to attach the hinge lid. Sitting on the bench is some 8/4 and 1/2" poplar to make a couple of closet doors for another daughter who's having kitchen rehab done. And two picture frames for posters for third daughter. Assembled, stained and waiting for finish (along with above memory box)
July 23, 20214 yr Popular Post Got colored somewhat corrected on the house paint. May get the last of it done on Monday. Shop time is promising.
July 24, 20214 yr Popular Post All I got done this evening was yardwork. Grass cut, edged, trimmed and blown off. With the new faucet at the back building I was able to fire up the pressure washer and clean all the yard tools again. Much better. Tomorrow, yup more pressure washing.
July 24, 20214 yr Popular Post Yard Sales.....trying to spend as little as I can get away with.....spent more on 2 donuts that on a sander

July 24, 20214 yr Popular Post Pecan bowl from the tree work yesterday. I give this bowl 1 chance in 3 of surviving to 2nd turning...punky spots and cracks. Pile of shavings for this bowl. .40
