March 21, 20215 yr Popular Post Worked the better part of the day on re-organizing my shop. Getting things ready for the new Shop Smith. Took down a bunch of grungy, hastily made wood shelving that was close to falling apart. Installed Dewalt heavy duty shelving units. Dragged trash cans of junk out to the curb. Gave some tools away to my nephews. Moved the dust collector and set up the Super Dust Deputy. Still have a work bench covered in stuff that I need to put away. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Range day tomorrow. Plan on firing the new Colonial Rifle. .40

March 21, 20215 yr Popular Post Finished early tonight on my latest project. A jig for the Drill press for drilling cylindrical objects. Had one for the old DP but it was custom made to fit that smaller DP plate. Used same V groove just new base that fits my WEN 12 in DP. Valuable tool to have in our arsenal. Made from 3/4 MDF and wrapped with 1/2 pine. Top and sides are Formica scraps from previous project. Keeps any oil / paint / other mess from ruining the MDF. Fits nicely, very snug fit to the plate. Checked when done by using laser pointer and then drilled a hole through a piece of 3/4 PVC. Spot on, very pleased. Off to finishing room top seal the bottom with some Arm R Seal. Be ready for use in a few days. Next is a new holder for it, old one was too small. Always something huh?

I just cannot justify a fancy jig for something I will use may once in 5 years. I just took a piece of 2x6 cedar which I had wasted time milling out from a log in my yard , cut a v in it and let it go. I made that one about 3 feet long for stool legs about 12 years ago. It has been used maybe once since. Oh well guess I have maybe 10 other jigs hanging in the shops I will probably never use again.
