March 18, 20215 yr Popular Post One more piece of advice. Please, please, do not rely on youtube to learn. I say that even though I have a youtube channel about turning. I freely admit there is some good content on youtube but there are also a ton of bad, or even dangerous examples of how not to use a lathe. As a new turner you have no filter to know the difference. Invest in a couple or three videos or DVDs from a pro. They are much better at teaching, and usually have professionals doing the lighting, camera work, and editing. For spindle work and art forms Cindy Drozda is a master and is also an excellent teacher. For bowls, Glenn Lucas is the best pure technician in the world IMO and turning is all about technique. Glenn is also an excellent teacher and a very underrated artist. Both have downloadable videos and/or dvd content for about 20 bucks.
