For labeling I take a hot melt glue gun and glue one of what I have inside the drawer to the outside so I can see it...

Oh great, now you have given @Grandpadave52 and @Larry Buskirk an idea.   You do know they will glue razor blades, edge facing outward, and pieces of barbed wire and such to the drawer fronts???

"A clean bench is the sign of a cluttered mind?"

I've worked with people on both ends of the spectrum.  If you asked one guy something, he'd go to his master notebook, look it up and decide it was in notebook 23.  Open notebook 23 and the first page was an index of all the tabs in that book, so he'd go to tab 12 so he could respond to you.   Another guy if you asked something, he'd survey his cubicle that was a panorama of post it notes and he'd soon locate the one with information.   Another guy when he left the company, the facility crew cleaned out his stuff.   There was a whole room of notebooks with project papers (initial estimates, status reports, scope changes, and whatever (I guess)).   They got about 60 boxes of 3 ring binders to reuse (most given to charity) and filled tote after tote with paper they didn't even bother to look at.

I will have to say that I label drawers and boxes, but I don't go overboard.

The guy from FastCap would love you.   If you wonder what this is, watch some of his OCD videos.
