September 3, 20205 yr Hey folks, I have these small rounds of wood pieces that came from an old wooden viking bowling set. they are angled at the top. I'd like to keep this feature but when I start the hollowing Process I run into a lot of catches, even after I drill center of the piece. Any ideas could I possibly use forsener or small spade bit?
September 3, 20205 yr I'd give the forstner bit a try. Spade bits would probably catch and make a ragged opening. Edited September 3, 20205 yr by lew

September 3, 20205 yr Looks like he used a hole saw on that thing. The way its cut. It may be too small to fit up on the lathe at this point....

September 4, 20205 yr Ok here is an idea but I think it is not the answer. Cut the slant off and then turn or drill the end. Then cut the slant on bandsaw by using a V tray to hold the round piece.
September 4, 20205 yr Steady hand and Easy Wood tools would be my choice. Drill center and work my way out to desired hole size. Straight cutter introduced straight in from the end.

I'm wanting to keep the slant to give it a different look. maybe if I drill deeper into the piece to get the affect I'm looking for.
