Pressure Pots

Tell your friend that it's used to squeeze the bubbles down in a resin casting....in this instance. Or, you can spray paint with it.:D

Ah, that's why I my friend never heard of using one.

I doubt it Andrew, from the way my friend described the process, it was pretty straight forward and simple, plus finishing stabilized wood is just sand it fine and rub it out with tung oil, because th

After watching a few youtube videos on setting up the paint pots as a pressure pot it seems fairly simple just adding in a few bits and pieces with with brass fittings and some teflon tape, although I may wind up taking that one step further and using a compound sealer rather than tape to make sure the thing doesnt leak at all.  I used tape that was rated for propane gas on a forge burner at one point and welp I had a leak so I've had issues with using the teflon tapes ever since.  But converting seems simple enough.  I've been trying to find some how to videos on youtube with the TCP global pots how ever there are not to many and with the particular brand that I am looking at purchasing.

Yea I watched almost all of those last night just by randomly searching on youtube.  The TCP one where the guy puts a bolt in the top where the paint agitator was I watched before I made the post LOL.  I may wind up saving some bucks and just buyin the pot in the second video just re watching this one.  I dont recall seeing this one just yet.  But then again I could just as easily do the modifications.

I may just wind up purchasing the HF pot to start off.  seems like its getting a lot of good comments on reviews from what I'm reading hear and stupid easy to modify.  Should be zero problems.  I'm the type of individual that usually doesn't like to wait on things.  So in the short run I think for giving the resin casting a trial run this will probably be a way to go for now.  Budget wise.    I'm looking at some of the specs for the pot its saying that the max pressure is 60.  From all the comments I've seen and the videos I've watched (Alumilite is what I'll primarily be using for this) is anywhere from 40 to 50 psi.  So I shouldn't have any issues there.  At least I don't think.

I'm assuming that was the yellow teflon tape for gas?  :WonderScratch:

I bought a paint pot from Harbor Freight and converted it. It will hold 45 pounds all night. You can see it in the bottom right.

If all I need is 45 Pounds of pressure it may be time to just invest in a HF pot how ever the bottom is not perfectly flat.  So that would have to be solved along with the garbage lock down nuts on the lid of the pot.  At least I wouldn't have to have it shipped since there is an HF right down the road from me.  I already own an aiir compressor so that wouldn't be an issue.  Just learning to mix the resin would lol.  Because I would really like to do some acrylic bowls.

Unfortunately at this point I think Alumilite might be a bit on the expensive side of resins for me to purchases.....  I've been looking at something as an alternative.... I was actually looking at this set up since it is a 1 to 1 ratio.  Not sure how well it would work but I'm sure it would work.

Yes. I have made a few pens and bottle stoppers.

Looks really fine, Rusty! If you have some time, I'd really appreciate more on what you did so be able to share with our turners.

There is a long stem inside that goes to the bottom of the can to suck up the paint that will need to be removed. I cut a circle out of scrap 1 by 12 to make the bottom flat. I added a valve and hose coupler to attach my air compressor hose. I can dial the pressure regulator to the pressure I want so I don’t have to keep adjusting the one on my compressor. I can leave the compressor hooked up to the pot all night if I want but don’t. On the exit where the paint comes out I added another valve and hose coupler, that is where I let the pressure out when I am ready to open the pot. Probably overkill but works well. I added a small fitting on the inside so when I charge the pot the air doesn’t blow straight down and disturbed the resin. The lockdowns on the pot work easy and very well. The pot will hold pressure all night. It is the Harbor Freight pot and works very well. Sorry I don’t have any pictures of the things I have made with it.

Sorry I forgot the pictures.

Andrew 45 pounds is plenty.

If you want you can get a thick piece of acrylic and also use the pot as a vacuum pot. I plan on doing that at some point. I already have the vacuum generator for my vacuum Chuck that should do the job.
