Guaranteed Larry, you'll be bucks up upon receiving your tax return, then minutes after you get it deposited into your bank, an emergency will occur that will require that moment of "feeling ahead" bliss to fade into a distant memory, happens every time to us. We got bucks up in April, started feeling a little cocky actually, I even got a new gun (my beloved flintlock rifle), laid out 500 smackers for that and my wife was getting ready to invest in a hobby she'd wanted to get started for sometime, then my transmission in my 2009 Corolla took a dive, paid the tranny man 2600 bucks, back in the red we go! Aint life a bi#!h!

August 15, 20205 yr Popular Post I think this is what Larry is working on. He just needs a trip to Georgia to get these belts. These kind of mills used to be pretty common until about 1960. We used to get shavings and sawdust from these places to bed our chicken houses. And the sweet smell of freshly cut pine was wonderful. Larry, we wish to see yours when completed. :-) Edited August 15, 20205 yr by FlGatorwood

That's one of the projects Keith Rucker is involved in Steve. Would love to check it out in person someday, but you know what they say about someday. Mine's on a much smaller scale using v-belts, and smaller machines & line-shaft equipment.

August 16, 20205 yr @John Morris, You had to mention car problems. Wife came back from store, said somethings hanging under the Jeep. So I go out and look another chunk of the uni-body frame has rusted away.

Idiots don't realize how stupid they are. I have survived multiple tours in combat, obtained an reasonably advanced education and held a business together in a very competitive environment for 35 years. One thing I have found is the the more I learn the more i realize and don't know and that if I learn much more I will be completely ignorant. Crazy people think they are the sanest people in the room. It is a very similar concept with idiots. Where do you think the 'facepalm' comes from?

I have met some older folks just like that, one example, a neighbor of my dads back in the day, he was about 150 yrs old, and he was a woodworking/tinkerer, he modified every machine he owned, cuz the engineers who designed the machine were a "bunch of propeller head idiots". So he had to stick his own mods on his machines, best he not let others use those machines, they were quite dangerous, but made sense to him! A good engineer on his own generally does a pretty efficient job. It is when they get together on a group that the problems set in. A giraffe is a dog designed by committee. When I was contracted to design and build manufacturing systems I assigned a single engineer to each main section and another to insure compatibility between the different parts. The output of Part A had to fit the input of Part B and so on but each part had a single engineer /designer. I would review all of it and the main question I asked was "This will work, but now tell me how you service it. It is the most overlooked aspect of design. I brought a Chevy Monza in the 70's. You had to unbolt the engine and jack it up to change the left rear spark plug. I would recommend a movie called "The Pentagon Wars". It is a comical look at the development of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. It was required viewing for every employee in the company.
